Unidentified Toddler - 1 yo - Milwaukee WI

The parents of a toddler whom officials found to have nine to 11
broken bones 14 days after a Family Court judge removed the boy and his
twin from a protective order pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that
the father abused and the couple neglected the 1-year-old.
"These were excruciatingly painful fractures," Lynn K. Sheets, a child abuse
pediatrician at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, testified during the
27-year-old mother's preliminary hearing before Milwaukee County
Circuit Judge Jeffrey Wagner.
The 40-year-old father waived his preliminary hearing. Both were bound over for trial.
At this point we cannot not identify the couple in order to protect the identities of their children.
The father is charged with child abuse intentionally causing great bodily
harm and with child neglect resulting in great bodily harm. He faces up
to 52½ years in prison.
The mother is charged with child neglect resulting in great bodily harm.
The parents and twin boys - born while their mother was in prison for child
abuse - appeared before Milwaukee County Family Court Judge Glenn
Yamihiro on Jan. 6. Against the advice from the children's lawyer, a
prosecutor and the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare, Yamihiro lifted a
protection order that had been in place since the twins were born.
While it appears that some of the child's injuries were afflicted before the
hearing, the bureau case worker who was making twice-monthly visits to
the family's home - testified she did not currently have safety
concerns.
Wagner set an April 26 trial date for both parents.
The mother, who has voluntarily terminated her parental rights to four of
her children, is expected to give birth to her seventh child before her
trial.
