BRIAN HAWES - 2 yo - Racine WI

Racine WI ---- A Racine man convicted in the suffocation death of
his girlfriend's 2-year-old son has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Authorities say 28-year-old Jessie M. Rodriguez tied Brian Hawes in a
blanket to keep the toddler in bed. The coroner says Brian died of asphyxiation
after being tied too tight.
Attorneys for the prosecution and defense agreed Thursday that Rodriguez
showed genuine remorse from the outset.
Rodriguez had been charged with second-degree reckless homicide.
He had pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of child neglect causing death.
Rodriguez was the boyfriend of the child's mother, Tisa Hawes. She's
serving a three-year prison sentence after pleading no contest to failing to prevent child abuse.
