Baltimore police have charged the father of a toddler with murder in
the death Saturday of his 2-year-old daughter.Melonie Hamber was
pronounced dead at 5:19 p.m. Saturday after she was taken from the 2000
block of East Hoffman Street to Johns
Hopkins Hospital, said police spokesman Donny Moses. Police
suspected she had been shaken.Her father, Tyrone Hamber, 22, of
the same address, told police he found the child unresponsive on the
bathroom floor. Under questioning, he told investigators that he beat
the child with a belt to discipline her, Moses said.Initially,
police charged Hamber with first- and second-degree child abuse and
related counts. But during an autopsy, the medical examiner found
injuries, which Moses did not detail, and ruled the death a homicide.
Hamber was charged with first- and second-degree murder, he said.Court
records show Hamber was being held with bond.

Baltimore, Maryland - Baltimore police have charged a father with the death of his 2-year-old daughter. It happened Saturday in East Baltimore. Mary Bubala reports the father is now behind bars.

Police say Melonie Hamber was severely beaten inside a rowhome on East Hoffman Street. Her father, Tyrone Hamber, 22, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder. Police say he admitted to disciplining the girl with a belt after she let his dogs in the house.

"The father had told the little girl not to let the dogs in the house, but of course, she being 2-years-old, she let the dogs in the house just by opening the door and the father started disciplining her by beating her with a belt and unfortunately, that resulted in her death," said Det. Donny Moses, Baltimore Police spokesperson.

Initially police charged Hamber with first- and second-degree child abuse after he confessed to striking her, but the medical examiner found other injuries and ruled Melonie's death a homicide.

The medical examiner also saw signs of earlier abuse. "The baby had injuries that appear to be healing from prior abuse, in addition to injuries she had sustained in this incident," Moses said. Police say Melonie had been staying with her father for two weeks. Hamber is being held with bond.

Dad beats 2-year-old daughter to death during her two-week visit (Baltimore, Maryland)
We've reported on dad TYRONE HAMBER 3rd a couple of times now. Hamber has now been jailed for beating his 2-year-old daughter to death with a belt, and he has basically admitted doing so. Now we find out that he killed the little girl because she let his dogs in the house. What an @$$hole.

And another interesting fact--the murder took place while the little girl had been visiting her father for two weeks. So whose idea was this? The mother's? Or the family court's? I'm still trying to figure out if the "girlfriend" who filed for an order of protection last year (and was denied) was this girl's mother. Wouldn't surprise me.

A Baltimore man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally beating his 2-year-old daughter with a leather belt.
Tyrone Hamber had pleaded guilty in October to child abuse resulting in death in the killing of Melonie Hamber in April 2010. He was sentenced on Friday.

Hamber admitted to beating his daughter unconscious with a belt before calling police. He had initial told investigators that he found the child unresponsive on the bathroom floor.

Tyrone Hamber will spend the next 25 years in prison for killing his two-year-old daughter.

On October 21, 2011, Hamber pled guilty to child abuse resulting in death, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison, for killing his daughter in April 2010.

Hamber admitted to beating his child unconscious with a belt before calling for help.

At the February 24, sentencing hearing, Hamber moved to withdraw his guilty plea and sough a lesser sentence. After hearing arguments, the court denied the motion.

The State sought a sentence of 30 years, and the court sentenced him to 25 years, which was the top of the defendant's sentencing guidelines.
