Fayetteville WV ---- An Oak Hill man accused of giving his disabled
son a powerful painkiller has been convicted of first-degree murder in
connection with the boy's death.
A Fayette County Circuit Court jury found 35-year-old Henry Clay Jenkins
guilty Thursday following a two-day trial. Jurors also convicted
Jenkins on a charge of child neglect resulting in death.Authorities say Jenkins' 14-year-old son, Christian Clay Jenkins, died
in 2008 five days after the defendant gave the teenager oxycodone.
Christian Jenkins had cystic fibrosis. Henry Jenkins faces a life
sentence on the murder charge. The jury recommended mercy, meaning he
would be eligible for parole after serving 15 years. Sentencing is set
for June 23.

An Oak Hill man will be sentenced for the murder of his disabled son.
Henry Clay Jenkins, 35,
was found guilty of first-degree murder and child neglect causing death
last month. His son, 14-year-old Christian Jenkins, suffered from
cystic fibrosis and was confined to a wheelchair. According to
prosecutors, Christian died at CAMC General from a drug overdose in 2008.

An autopsy found that
there were several prescription drugs obtained illegally in Christian's
system including Oxycodone. During the trial, prosecutors were able to
prove that Henry Jenkins had murdered the boy giving him a
30mg Oxycodone pill. They also found that he failed to contact emergency
crews for several while the boy was suffering from the effects of the drug.

Jenkins will be sentenced at 9 a.m. in Fayette County Courthouse. The jury has
recommended that he be given mercy.
