A Wayne County woman accused of breaking her infant son's leg while changing his diaper in anger has been arrested.
Lisa Marie Witt, 21, of Wayne was arrested Thursday and charged with child abuse leading to serious bodily injury after an authorities launched an investigation into her 3-month-old son's injury.

Witt told Cpl. S.G. Poff of the Wayne Sheriff's Department that she and her mother took the baby to his regular pediatrician in July after noticing the injury. The doctor referred them to Cabell Huntington Hospital after he saw that the baby could not straighten out his leg, according to a complaint filed in Wayne Magistrate Court.

The child was admitted to the hospital on July 23. Radiologists then found that the infant had a broken left tibia, the shinbone, and had older fractures in his left femur, or thighbone, and right tibia, the complaint said. The infant was treated and released from the hospital three days later.
Department of Health and Human Resources authorities removed the child and his older sister from the home the same day. They were placed in a relative's care.

Poff met with the children's father on Aug. 4, and he agreed to a polygraph examination regarding the injury. The man took the test on Tuesday but failed and later provided a written statement to the deputies indicating that he saw his estranged wife Lisa jerk the child's legs in anger while she was changing his diaper at her home on July 10, the complaint said.

Lisa Witt met with State Police Sgt. Kim Pack on Aug. 10 for her polygraph examination but confessed to hurting the child before taking the test, deputies said. Witt told authorities that her mother had taken her grandmother to the hospital, leaving her home alone with both of her children, her cousin and his girlfriend.

She told police that she had been mad at someone else in the home while changing the infant's diaper and pulled hard on his leg, hearing a "crack." Witt said she harmed the child again after the initial incident. She said she had been mad at someone in the home again while giving the infant a bath. She said she had been gentle while bathing the child, but was rough while getting him out of the tub and dressing him. She told officers she heard a "pop" after that incident but still did not take the child to a doctor.

Calls to the Wayne Sheriff's Department were not immediately returned. A clerk at Wayne Magistrate Court confirmed that Witt had been arrested and that her bond had been set at $250,000.
