ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's defense team scheduled depositions Friday morning and afternoon. Several officers are being questioned under oath.
JUDGE'S ORDERS: Status Hearing | Set Schedules
Casey's attorney, Jose Baez, says it was the quickest way for him to find out whether he needs to take more time with any of the officers.
Thursday, the judge in Casey Anthony's murder trial warned her attorneys to stay on schedule. Chief Judge Belvin Perry gave them more time to take depositions from the law enforcement officers.
Most of the 35 officers who are scheduled for defense depositions Friday are from the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Many of them are detectives who have other work to do and they are not happy about the way it was scheduled.
Usually, each witness is scheduled for a particular time to show up, rather than altogether. Eighteen officers were scheduled to show up at 9:00am and another 17 are scheduled to show up for depositions at 1:00pm. All the officers were scheduled just a week ago.
Baez had scheduled several law enforcement officers for depositions all summer, but he cancelled almost all of them. The judge told attorneys, if they can't schedule their own depositions, he'll do it for them and it will include evenings and weekends.
Casey's murder trial is set to begin in May 2011.
