DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Des Moines family and police continue to look for a missing 13-year-old girl who was last seen on Friday.

Police said Tiffany Angel Speck was last seen at her house on Bell Avenue at 7:30 a.m. She left the house to get on a bus at South Union and Kirkwood, but police said she never got on the bus or arrived at school.

Speck is described as 5 foot 2 inches tall, 145 pounds and has brown hair and eyes. She was wearing blue jeans, a black "McKee" sweatshirt and a white coat. She also has braces.

Family members told KCCI on Tuesday that fliers are being distributed throughout the community and a support group has been started on Facebook.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call 515-283-4811.

Possible Clues

A neighbor claimed seeing the teen get into a car instead of boarding her school bus Friday.

Neighbor Larey Starner said Tiffany missed her school bus.

"She sat there for quite a while, then she walked down and got in a red Cadillac," said Starner.

Family Worried

Tiffany's brother, Jason Speck, hopes to see her come back.

"If she is watching, tell her we love her very much and very much missed and wanted," said Speck. "She's kind of a reserved girl, and doesn't show too much emotion but she was, she seemed really happy Friday morning when I saw her."

While Des Moines police officers search for Tiffany, her worried family can only hope and pray that the mystery has a happy ending.

Des Moines police and the Speck family are asking that anyone with information call police immediately.

Look for updates on this case here on KCCI.com and on KCCI-TV.

Missing girl camped by river for most of absence

Tiffany Speck returned to her south Des Moines family to hugs and eyes swollen red with tears. The 13-year-old went missing a week ago on her way to a school bus stop near South Union Street and Kirkwood Avenue. Des Moines police and the family launched a search for the girl that remained fruitless until Friday morning. One of Tiffany’s schoolmates informed police Tiffany was staying at 920 Thornton Ave. — just more than a mile from Tiffany’s Bell Avenue home.“We are just so relieved,” said Jason Speck, Tiffany’s older brother, who served as the family’s de facto spokesman while his sister was missing. “My eyes are bloodshot. I finally broke down. This has been the toughest week of my life.”According to the family, Tiffany missed a bus to McKee alternative school shortly before 8:30 a.m. Nov. 5. She was feeling ill, Jason Speck said, and decided to go hang out with friends for the day.As the day wore on and it got later, “she just got in over her head and didn’t come home,” Jason Speck said.Tiffany apparently camped along the Des Moines River for most of her absence and spent her days walking alone. She had a lighter and used it to make campfires at night, Jason Speck said.Jason and his father, Gary Speck, rode ATVs along the river Thursday and likely came within feet of the missing teenager.“She said she could hear people on four wheelers,” Jason Speck said. “That had to be us.”Overnight temperatures began to cool Wednesday, and Tiffany sought shelter at the Thornton Avenue home, where a friend from school lived. The Specks allege the family at Thornton Avenue, who have not been publicly named, did not contact police and did not notify the Specks of Tiffany’s whereabouts.“I had been to that house in the last few days, so they knew she was missing and we wanted her home,” Jason Speck said. “That’s something the police are going to look into. As a parent, it’s disappointing.”There was no answer at 920 Thornton Avenue Friday afternoon.Tiffany stayed inside the Bell Avenue home while her mother, Ann Speck, and sister, Amy Walker, met with news media. The teenager was mostly tired and hungry, the family said.“She requested Chinese food,” Amy Walker said. The family planned to spend the weekend quietly together watching the Iowa Hawkeyes football game.Tiffany would be home, too, her father Gary Speck said.“She’s grounded,” he said. “She’s definitely grounded.
