The case of a Moundsville woman accused of burning the word “wimp” into her 6-year-old daughter’s neck with a cigarette has been transferred to a different judge. Marshall County Circuit Judge Mark A. Karl transferred 44-year-old Tammy Smith’s case to Circuit Judge David W. Hummel on Monday. The Intelligencer newspaper in Wheeling reports that no reason was given for the transfer. According to court documents, Smith’s daughter informed police in December 2008 that her mother burned her neck with a cigarette as punishment. A doctor confirmed the burns to the child’s neck and found 13 additional burns on her body. Smith faces 10 counts of felony child abuse and 10 counts of malicious assault. A trial date has not been set.
