EXCLUSIVE: Hailey Suspect Breaks His Silence

Dunn, TX - A month and half into the investigation of the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, the only named suspect in the case is breaking his silence.

Shawn Adkins spoke exclusively to KTAB-TV giving what he calls his version of the truth.
Adkins claims most of the information in the affidavits wasn't accurate. He said his lawyer advised him not to talk to media or police.
"I just felt like it was a witch hunt at the time and they were just trying to pin it on somebody which was me. I didn't want that happening so I just stopped talking to them," he said.

Since reportedly failing a polygraph exam on Wednesday, January 5, Adkins has stayed away from media interviews. He's been traveling between Dunn and Big Spring and staying with relatives.
Adkins is the boyfriend of Hailey's mother, Billie Dunn. He's also the last person to see Hailey on the afternoon of December 27, 2010 in Colorado City.
Though Adkins is the only named suspect, authorities say they have several other persons of interest.
KTAB asked Adkins to explain some of the disturbing information in the affidavits released last month. We also asked him about making threats towards both Billie and Hailey Dunn.
"I never made any threats toward Hailey. It was just toward Billie," said Adkins.

We heard that David's father is in prison for drugs, leaving Hailey's brother bereft of a father's influence. This would mean that David would be raised without a father because of drugs. His life would then in turn impact Hailey's.

People close to the family say that Billie Jean Dunn lost her license to be a nurse due to drugs. This would impact income for the family.

UPDATE: Professional Searchers Returning to Colorado City

Two national missing child search organizations are returning to Colorado City next week for a two-day search next week in the hopes of finding Hailey Dunn, who has been missing since Dec. 27.

The Laura Recovery Center and KlaasKids came to help organize community searches last month and will do the same on Feb. 19 and 20.

Brad Dennis with KlaasKids said they are bringing K-9 teams and search teams in, and that they will spend Friday, Feb. 18 organizing the weekend search. They will need time to figure out what areas have been searched since the two groups left and come up with a game plan for the weekend.

The volunteers who were trained by the two private groups have been conducting searches every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. until dark.

Volunteers, especially those with ATVs or horses, are asked to join in any of the searches, but particularly the large-scale one coming up next weekend. They will meet each morning at the Colorado City Civic Center.

A limited amount of free housing will be available for searchers who come in from out of town, Dawn Davis of the LRC said. Those interested are asked to coordinate in advance by calling 866-898-5723.

Funds Raised for Dunn Search in Memory of Slain Teen

A memorial for Amber DuBois (pictured), a 14-year-old California girl who was killed two years ago, helped raise money for a team to come to Texas to help search for Hailey Dunn.

Dunn, 13, was last seen on Dec. 27 in Colorado City.

Team Amber Rescue, named for DuBois, is a new volunteer child rescue group. The group was started by DuBois' mother, Carrie McGonigle, and has joined in partnerships with the Laura Recovery Center in Texas and KlaasKid, according to Examiner.com.

The LRC and KlaasKids will be in Colorado City this weekend to lead a large-scale community search. Organizers will spend Friday creating a plan and mapping out which areas have already been covered before opening the search up to volunteers on Friday morning.

Investigators Won't Release Cell Records in Dunn Case

Though search warrant affidavits revealed a timeline of calls made by key players in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, we likely won't know anytime soon to whom the calls in question were made.
The City of Colorado City has denied a request made under the Freedom of Information Act to release those cell phone records.
An affidavit from Mitchell County shows investigators have received records from Verizon pertaining to phones used by Hailey's mother Billie Dunn and her live-in boyfriend Shawn Adkins. The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office says those records were handed over to Colorado City Police.
In not releasing the records, Colorado City cited a portion of the Freedom of Information Act that reads:
"Information held by a law enforcement agency or prosecutor due to the investigation or prosecution of a crime is excepted from the requirements of Section 550.021, seq."
In search warrants, police indicated Adkins, the only named suspect in the case, made several cell phone calls on the morning of Hailey's disappearance. Affidavits showed Adkins' phone was used in Colorado City from 6:35 to 6:56 a.m. It was then used in Big Spring several times between 9:38 a.m. and 2:40 p.m.
A few weeks later, Billie Dunn revealed that investigators were looking into a text message sent from her phone later that afternoon. Billie believes it may have been sent by her daughter.
Colorado City's City Manager Pete Kampfer confirmed that law enforcement was examining a text message but wouldn't elaborate beyond that point.
Both of the phones in question were operated by Verizon.

They read a website like this, where not only does the site post that the mother is deceptive, but gives tangible reasons why.

A split of sorts, begins.

Clint Dunn is out of jail and is ready to search again.

In a missing child case, audiences often see families with fractures, come together for a single minded purpose: find the child.

But in a case where there are strong indicators of guilt within a family, the fracture compounds.

On Saturday, a national search organization returned to West Texas to rejoin the search for Hailey.
Klaas Kids, which is dedicated to helping find missing children, sent representatives to Colorado City on Saturday.
On top of that, 100 volunteers gathered in the city.
Searches over the past few weeks have been
hampered by the cold weather but those efforts are gaining new steam and
searchers hope to cover new territory to assist law enforcement.
Klaas Kids has been in West Texas before and says now is the time to make sure everyone knows that Hailey is missing.
Hailey Dunn has been missing since December 27th, there has been no sign of the 13-year-old since.
Hailey's mother's boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, has been named a person of interest in the case but no charges have been filed.
The volunteers will be back out searching on Sunday morning.

Big Spring, Tex. - On Tuesday, authorities conducted an extensive
search of a Big Spring landfill for missing Colorado City, Tex. teen Hailey Dunn.
Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer told media that law enforcement is

The landfill in Big Spring is not the only land fill investigators

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- The missing Colorado City teen's father speaks out Wednesday on the only named suspect in his daughter's case, Shawn Adkins.
Clint Dunn told KTXS he doesn't believe Adkins is involved in his
daughters disappearance, "I want Shawn to get out and help. That's how
he will prove his innocence and I think he is innocent." Clint
told KTXS Wednesday he is no longer putting any stock in all the rumors,
and he still has complete faith in finding his daughter alive. Hailey Dunn was last seen December 27th. Wednesday, authorities told us they did not find anything substantial in their search of the Big Spring landfill Monday. Big Spring is one of four landfills investigated thus far in the case.

Investigators: 'Deviant images' found on computer of mother of suspect in Hailey Dunn case

Investigators said deviant images and pornographic videos and
pictures were found on a computer and memory stick confiscated in early
January as part of the investigation into the disappearance of
13-year-old Hailey Dunn from Colorado City.

The Dell Inspirion 530 computer contained “approximately 108,498
pictures depicting deviant acts,” according to evidence returned from a
search warrant issued from the 32nd District Court in Sweetwater.

The computer was taken from the home of Shawn Adkins’ mother in the
2800 block of Apache Street in Big Spring. Adkins, the former boyfriend
of Hailey’s mother Billie Jean Dunn, is the only named suspect in the
case.

A memory stick confiscated from a dresser in the master bedroom of
the Dunn residence in Colorado City contained “320 images and videos of
a pornographic nature.” The search warrants for digital media were
issued Jan. 7 by 32nd District Judge Glen Harrison’s office.

Evidence return ed on search warrants for two cell phones – one
confiscated from Hailey Dunn's mother Billie Jean and the other from
Adkins – showed that all stored communications were retrieved from Dec.
25, 2010, through Jan. 8.

The results from the search warrants on the electronics were obtained
by the Reporter-News through public information requests to 32nd
Distirct Court , which covers Fisher, Mitchell and Nolan counties. The
results of the warrants to confiscate the cell phones, were obtained
through Mitchell County Judge Ray Mayo’s office.

The Scurry County Sheriff's Office
confirms to KTXS News that Connie Ostrander, the grandmother of missing
Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn, has been arrested on drug charges.



They tell us 49-year-old Ostrander is in the Snyder Jail facing drug
charges. She is Hailey Dunn's grandmother and Billie Jean Dunn's mother
and was arrested just after 2 p.m. Friday and charged with possession
of a controlled substance.She has not been charged with anything in connection
with Hailey's disappearance and no bond has been set on the drug charges.

Billie Dunn will not be appearing at an upcoming event aimed at
putting an end to human trafficking after the news that a computer
memory stick with images depicting child pornography was found in her
house.

The memory stick was found as the result of search warrants being
carried out at Dunn's home in Colorado City, following the disappearance
of her 13-year-old daughter Hailey Dunn.

Billie and her estranged husband, Clint Dunn, originally were asked
to appear together at a Traffick911 rally in Mansfield on Sunday.
Traffick911 is an organization aimed at stopping the buying and selling
of American children into sexual slavery.

"Traffick911 is deeply saddened by this revelation," Deena Graves,
executive director of Traffick911, said in a statement Friday. "Any
child in a pornographic image is a trafficked child and our organization
is driven to stop the trafficking of children in any form."

The memory stick was confiscated from a dresser in the master bedroom
of the home that Billie shared with then-boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, who
also is the only named suspect in the disappearance of Hailey.

The memory stick contained "320 images and videos of pornographic
nature," including images depicting bestiality and child pornography,
according to Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs.

A computer was also seized from Adkin's mother's house in Big Spring. It also contains pornographic images, Sheriff Toombs said.

The Sunday event is for Hailey and other missing and exploited children, Graves said.

"The images found underscore how critical it is to focus on demand
and help people understand how pornography drives this horrific crime
against our children," she said.

Graves said although Billie Dunn will not speak at the rally, Clint
Dunn will speak and hold a vigil for Hailey, who was reported missing
Dec. 28.

Clint Dunn said he looks forward to the event and hopes it will draw
attention to many people's ignorance concerning missing and exploited
children.

"I've got to get the word out on this," he said, "that 2,200 kids go
missing every day. I'm not talking about some number I got off the
Internet, I'm talking about these are the real numbers of kids reported
missing."

He said he was disappointed at the news of what the search warrant
uncovered because it puts more stress on the search and takes more
attention away from finding Hailey.

"I work so hard to get everything ironed out," he said, "and when I finally do another wrinkle pops up."

He maintains that he will look for his daughter until he finds her
and hopes the event encourages people to continue to work to bring
Hailey home.

A memory chip was found in the dresser at Billie Dunns house which contains child pornography and a computer at Shawn Adkin's mother's house was also found to have child pornography on it. According to the above article there are around 100,000 images, including bestiality. Billie Dunn claims to have no knowledge of any of it. The reporter asked her how the chip got there and she said someone brought it over. When asked who brought it over she said Shawn. Billie Dunn said she talked a little bit with Shawn about it and he denies knowing anything about the pornography. She said she will talk to Shawn later some more. Bille Dunn believes he's telling the truth and doesn't think it has anything to do with Hailey. When asked why she believes Shawn, she said she's known him for quite a while and he's never been into that, he's not like that and she wouldn't be with someone like that. When asked what he's like she said he's very kind and nice. When asked about the computer at Shawns mother's she said she doesn't know who has been using it. She says LE phoned her about it but she wasn't told much and she wants to find out more about it and get some answers. She said she was called by the Nancy Grace show to come on and talk about it but she declined because she doesn't know anything about it.

Grand Jury To Decide On Arrests Of Shawn Adkins Or Billie Dunn

Authorities tell us it will be up to a grand jury whether Shawn
Adkins or Billie Dunn will be arrested for the child pornography found
at Billie's home. Billie is the mother of missing teen Hailey Dunn, who was last seen nearly 2 months ago.
KTXS reported Friday, that a computer memory stick with child
pornography, as well as more than 100 thousand other graphic images, was
taken by officials from Billie's home. Shawn Adkins, Billie's boyfriend, lived there at the time.They also collected evidence of porn from Shawn Adkins mother's home in Big Spring. KTXS knocked on Billie's door Saturday but no one answered. We also called her cell phone, again no one picked up.
Saturday, Colorado City City Manager Pete Kampfer said no arrests
have been made, but that prosecutors are gathering their evidence and
plan to eventually take it to a grand jury, "Pending their deliberations
and what the persecutors present and they're timing, we'll probably
effect an arrest or however that will go at that time. But that's
contingent on a grand jury and what prosecutors carry to them." Kampfer
did not have a time frame for when prosecutors might present their case
to a grand jury. This weekend, both Billie and Clint Dunn,
Hailey's parents had been asked to speak at a human traffic awareness
event in Mansfield, in the metroplex. The executive director
of "Traffik 911", Deena Graves released this statement, "Traffick911 is
deeply saddened by this revelation. Any child in a pornographic image
is a trafficked child and our organization is driven to stop the
trafficking of children in any form. Under the circumstances, Billie

So what are they taking to the Grand Jury? Does that mean they have evidence Hailey is dead? This Kiwi doesn't completely understand what the criteria is for going to a GJ.
