Casey Anthony: Cheney Mason’s caseload grows — is it too much?

The caseload of Casey Anthony attorney Cheney Mason was a top story on WFTV-Channel 9 today.
“Mason’s client list is getting long,” WFTV anchor Greg Warmoth said.
“It certainly is, and it is a who’s who of major Central Florida clients,” reporter George Spencer agreed.
Scott Frederick Bush, the Windermere man charged with child rape and molestation, will have Mason and Whitney Bone as attorneys. Bone said she and Mason would work together on the case, Spencer reported. Windermere Police Chief Daniel Saylor was suspended after being accused of shutting down an investigation into Bush, his friend.
The Bush story was also a top story on WESH-Channel 2. Michelle Meredith noted that Bush remains in jail with no bond. He has entered a plea of not guilty.
Spencer listed other Mason clients: Anthony, Seminole murder suspect Isaac Burt and former Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer.
“It may be unusual because of the amount of the publicity that’s attached to each of these cases,” WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said. “But Mason is not a lone ranger.”
Mason did not return WFTV’s calls, Spencer reported.
And he didn’t return WESH’s calls, either. WESH’s Bob Kealing wondered about Mason’s workload, but attorney Tom Luka said Bush needs a lawyer of Mason’s caliber. Luka praised Mason lavishly in Kealing’s report: “Mr. Mason has practiced in federal court, state court, all over the state. He’s well respected. He’s been doing this 40 years. He knows his business. He’s done many capital felonies before.”
WESH also offered a report from Greg Fox about how the Anthony case is affecting another trial: The family of football player Ereck Plancher is suing the University of Central Florida for wrongful death.
Circuit Judge Robert Evans persuaded both sides in the Plancher case to start that trial in June. The Anthony case is scheduled to begin in May. “The judge in this case thinks it’s just going to be too crazy — the atmosphere around the Orange County Courthouse when the Casey Anthony trial is going on with not only an increase in security but hundreds and hundreds of media members,” Fox said.
