A mother and her boyfriend were arrested Tuesday in the suspected child abuse death last month of a 2-year-old girl.
Tiara Peoples, 21, and Terrence Taylor, 24, both of Indianapolis, were arrested on a warrant alleging neglect of a dependent causing death in the death of Tyneise Quiller, said Sgt. Paul Thompson of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Both were held in the Marion County Jail, records show. Peoples' bond was set at $50,000; Taylor's bond was set at $75,000.
Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Parkview Avenue just before midnight Dec. 7 on reports of a child not breathing. They found Tyneise dead at the scene.
Witnesses told officers the child had fallen, but an autopsy ruled the death a homicide.
"(Tyneise) died of multiple blunt-force injuries while in the care of both suspects," Thompson said in a statement. "Both made statements to the detective implicating each other but denying responsibility themselves."
Homicide Detective Doug Cook arrested the couple Tuesday night.

A rash of child abuse cases have made headlines recently, but one local
expert said she doesn't believe it's the beginning of a trend.Tiara
Peoples, 21, and her boyfriend, Terrence Taylor, 24, pleaded not guilty
to neglect charges Thursday in connection with the death of Peoples' 2-year-old daughter,
Tyneise Quiller.Police said the toddler suffered multiple blunt force injuries
Dec. 7 in her home in the 200 block of Parkview Avenue.Taylor told 6News' Derrik Thomas outside court Thursday that he's innocent.
"He never put his hands on a child," said his cousin, Elijah Stump.
Emmanuel Rodriguez-Serrano, 20, was being held without bond Thursday
after his arrest on a murder charge in the death of his 1-month-old daughter,
Evelyn Jasmine Ricardo.Emergency responders said they found the infant dead
on the floor of an apartment at 9323 Racquet Ball Drive on Tuesday.Rodriguez-Serrano
told police the baby was asleep on a bed and somehow ended up on the
floor, but an autopsy determined that the infant died as a result of
blunt-force trauma.Ayrick Steele, 30, was being held in the Marion County Jail
on Thursday following his arrest on a charge of aggravated battery in connection
with critical head injuries suffered by the 1-year-old son of his girlfriend, Chrystal Dobbs, 23.
Forensic psychologist Dr. Mary Ann Keaton said she has seen these types of cases
before but said she believes it's just a coincidence that there have
been so many in the past few weeks."They (the children) are easy
targets. They can be annoying. At stressful times, and with mental
illness, alcohol or drugs involved, what happens is the child is the
victim and the target," Keaton said. "They are defenseless. They can't
talk. They can't tell somebody."Taylor and Peoples will have bond-reduction hearings on Jan. 28.

A mom and her boyfriend have been formally charged today with felony neglect of a dependent in connection with the December death of a 2-year-old girl.

Tiara Peoples, 21, and her boyfriend, Terrence Taylor, 24, are accused of not seeking medical help for Peoples' 2-year-old daughter, Tyneise Quiller, even though she showed signs of injury.

Police: Blunt force trauma killed child

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WISH) - Court records, obtained by 24-Hour News 8 Wednesday morning, show that Tyniese Quiller lived through a violent domestic life in her in all too short two-years.

Now, weeks after her death, police say the two responsible are the very people who should have taken care of her.

The child's mother, Tiara Peoples, and her boyfriend, Tarrance Taylor, now face felony neglect charges.

They told police the child hit her head after she slipped on cereal one afternoon.

Over the next 12 hours, they said, Tyneise became sick, then unresponsive.

Her mother said she even put her in the bathtub to wake her. But she later told police she thought Tyneise had already died at this point.

An autopsy tells a much different story.

Police noted obvious injuries to Tyneise, like cuts on her head, neck and back, and bruises to her forehead and right eye.

But the coroner found that these injuries aren't what killed her.

The autopsy showed a large amount of blood in her abdomen.

The coroner also reported cuts and ruptures to internal organs, like the child's liver, small intestine and pancreas.

Doctors said these injuries, caused by blunt force trauma, like being punched, are what killed this 2-year-old child.

There were two other children in the home at the time. One was Tarrance Taylor's daughter. The other was Tyniese's 2-year-old twin brother.

Tiara Peoples and Tarrance Taylor are both due in court for an initial hearing Thursday morning.

Tiara Peoples is being held on $50,000 bond. Terrence Taylor is being held on $75,000 bond. If convicted, each faces up to 50 years in prison.

Guilty plea gets man work release in child's death

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis man won't serve any more jail time in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl in January, if he abides by the terms of his plea deal.

According to court officials, Tarrance Taylor was sentenced to 10 years Tuesday, with four suspended and the remaining six to be served in work release. He will also then be on probation for two years. He had pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependant, a Class B felony, according to court officials.

He and his then-girlfriend, Tiara Peoples, were charged after Peoples' 2-year-old daughter, Tyniese Quiller, died from severe internal injuries caused by blunt-force trauma while in their care, according to the autopsy report .

Peoples is set for sentencing on Oct. 27.

Mother sentenced to two years probation for child's death

An Indianapolis mother was sentenced to two years probation after she pleaded guilty to neglect of a child resulting in death Thursday.

Tiara Peoples and her boyfriend, Terrence Taylor, had claimed 2-year-old Tyneise Quiller died last December after slipping on some cereal in the kitchen and hitting her head

Peoples' initial sentence was six years in jail, but that was suspended. As a condition of the two years on probation, she must serve home detention with a GPS monitoring device.
