Casey Anthony: WESH explores new defense motions

New motions by Casey Anthony’s defense team drew the scrutiny of WESH-Channel 2 tonight.
WESH’s Bob Kealing explained that Anthony’s attorneys are trying to get thrown out statements she made early in the search for her daughter, Caylee. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter. The trial is scheduled to begin in May.
“The defense team contends that Casey Anthony was taken into custody from her home [and] subjected to an extensive interrogation without being read her rights,” Kealing reported.
The defense team also wants tossed any statements Anthony made to investigators on the day she was indicted. Kealing highlighted that the defense plans to call a former Anthony boyfriend to help authenticate that one of her diary entries dates to 2003, not 2008, the year Caylee vanished.
WFTV-Channel 9 highlighted that the prosecution is disputing the addition yesterday of defense witnesses. “The list includes Channel 9 reporter Kathi Belich,” anchor Bob Opsahl said. “Prosecutors are also disputing defense arguments regarding two things: whether plant growth can determine how long ago Caylee’s remains were discarded and how the FBI tested alleged chloroform in Casey’s trunk.”
In a related matter, contrary to rumors, defense attorney Jose Baez’s driver’s license was never suspended. He paid the fine, and that was the end of it.
