Father Charged With Murder

The charge against 18-year-old Zacchaeus
Brown in connection with the death of his infant son has been upgraded
to capital murder. Brown was originally charged with felony child abuse,
even after 5-month-old Jaheem Brown died. But police said that charge
would hinge upon what the autopsy revealed.
It started Thursday afternoon at 203 Wilshire Avenue. AMR was called, and transported five-month-old Jaheem Brown to UMC.
Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart says Jaheem
was dead on arrival, with bruises to the face and head. The cause of
death has been ruled blunt force trauma
"To my knowledge he was watching the child by
himself, but we are still investigating that incident," says Jackson
Police spokeswoman Colendula Green.
Police say Jaheem's mother lives in the house
as well. A candle was lit in the living room when we knocked on the
door Friday, but no one answered. The mother and father are not married.
For police, it's two cases in two days in
which a child has been killed, and evidence points to their own dad. On
Wednesday, 28-year-old Elliott Ragsdale of Scots Glen in South Jackson
shot and killed his 12-year-old daughter, Lenore Ragsdale, then killed
himself. Police say it's difficult for a community to cope, and any
preventive measures should be taken.
"Talk to someone. Try to get some counseling.
If you can work through it, any type of situation, talk to a family
member, someone you feel that you're close with," Officer Green says.
