TRAESHON DeWAYNE SANDERS - 2 yo (2011)/ Suspect: Father; Dontral Sanders - Galveston TX
Police were looking Friday to arrest the father of a boy, 2, whose death one officer described as “disturbing.”
Bond for Dontrel Alexander Sanders, 24, was set at $225,000 on a charge of serious bodily injury to a child, Galveston police Capt. Jeff Heyse said.
A cash reward was offered for information leading to Sanders’ arrest in connection with the death of his son, Traeshon Dewayne Sanders. Police didn’t list an amount of the reward.
Police issued a wanted poster Friday with Dontrel Sanders’ photo and charge.
Sanders was not in custody Friday afternoon.
Sanders was possibly with an acquaintance in a white Ford Crown Victoria with the Texas license plate LTY235. There were possibly two young children in the car, Heyse said.
The charge of injury to a child is a first-degree felony, police said.
If convicted, Sanders could face life in prison, according to state statutes.
Police received a call from a man requesting medical help Sunday evening in the 5400 block of Avenue L. An officer found Traeshon Sanders unresponsive.
Officer Jamie Osteen performed CPR on the boy until an ambulance crew arrived.
Traeshon was pronounced dead upon his arrival at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
Heyse called circumstances of the boy’s death “disturbing,” but he declined to elaborate, citing the need to protect information that was key to the investigation.
Detectives worked Traeshon’s death as a homicide. The medical examiner, however, hasn’t ruled on a cause of death, which was pending further investigation.
Child Protective Services took custody of the boy’s 1-year-old brother, Heyse said.
Heyse asked anyone with information on Sanders’ whereabouts to call police at 409-765-3702 or Galveston County Crime Stoppers at 409-763-8477.
