Police: Man To Be Charged In Girls' Disappearance
Baltimore County Teens Missing For 24 Hours, Found Safe
WOODLAWN, Md. -- Police are investigating the disappearance of
two Baltimore County girls over the weekend, saying Monday that a
21-year-old man will likely be charged in the case. The two girls were found late Sunday evening, 24 hours after their reported disappearance.A
Baltimore County police detective told 11 News that the girls were
found in the area of Rolling Road. Tierra Taylor, 13, and Azaria
Griffin, 12, were reported missing at about 5 p.m. Saturday.
Police started searching for the girls after a third girl told
officers that she last saw the girls near the Dollar Store at 8011
Liberty Road.At the start of the investigation, police said the
girls met up with some unknown acquaintances who were in a black
two-door car with dark, tinted windows. The vehicle then left the scene.Police Lt. Rob McCullough said Monday that witnesses reported that the girls got into the car with the men.McCullough
said Monday that a 21-year-old man will be charged in connection with
the girls' disappearance, but he wouldn't give any other details in the
case. While family waited outside the Woodlawn police precinct at
11 p.m. Sunday, police were questioning the girls about the
circumstances surrounding their disappearance.
WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Sheldon Dutes was on the phone with
Griffin's mother when police called her to report the girls' recovery."I'm
excited. I'm nervous. I just want to see her. I want to put my arms
around her and let her know we all love her," Griffin's mother, Marva
Griffin, told 11 News during a live report at 11 p.m. "I was just happy
to receive a call to let us know that our daughters were OK."On
Sunday night, Taylor's mother, Kearna Horn, told Dutes that they are
receiving text messages from Tierra's phone; however, they said they do
not believe Tierra is actually the person sending the texts.Horn told 11 News that police tracked the girls via the text messages to her daughter's aunt."I
felt as though whoever had Tierra, it was a guy. So. I was sending text
messages as if I was the guy, talking to him asking him, 'What's up?
Where you at? I need to meet you.' as if I was just one of his friends,
and the main thing for me was I needed to keep the line of
communication open so they could track her phone with my phone and
locate these girls, and I'm happy. Job well done. And, I can't wait to
see them," said Venus Robinson-Carter, Taylor's aunt.Police said the case is being treated as a criminal investigation.
