AUSTIN (KXAN) - Every day students walk to and from school in South Austin. Ellyssa Evans, 14, an eighth grader at Fulmore Middle School is among the the kids who live close enough to walk. Last
Friday, Ellysa's parents told KXAN she called from a school payphone
around 3:30 p.m. like she does every day to let them know she was about
to start walking home. The walk is only one mile, but she never came
home. Her father Marvin Evans said she is a good girl that is very naive. "She would never runaway," said Evans. "I mean like she said she was coming home and she is not, she is not, she is not home." Ellyssa does not have a cell phone. When she didn't show up at home by 5 p.m., her stepmother Ruth Evans called police and filed a missing person's report. Ruth
said Ellysa didn't have many friends, but recently fell in with a bad
group of kids at school and believes that a gang was trying to get her
to join. "They said they were going to jump her in, you know, beat her up," explained Ruth. Both
Marvin and Ruth have called around to area hospitals, to family friends
and even their pastor and no one has heard from the girl. "If she was staying overnight somewhere, she would have called and the parents would have called," Marvin said. Ruth
said she tried calling the school to talk to the principal and
teachers, but no one answered the phone and there has not been anyone
there all weekend. She plans on going to the school Monday morning and hopes Ellyssa shows up. "We love her and want her home," Ruth said. "This is not typical," Ellyssa's father added. Her
parents are now passing out fliers around the area with photographs of
Ellyssa and a description of her. Ellyssa is 4'3" and weights around 120
pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She also has a a long scar
on her left arm. Her father and stepmother do not believe she is
with her biological mother because she is homeless, lives in Florida and
has not been in contact with Ellysa in about three years.See photo at linkhttp://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/crime/14-year-old-south-austin-girl-missing

(KXAN) - Ellyssa Evans, 14, who disappeared
Friday afternoon, was found alive Sunday night in South Austin,
according to her stepmom Ruth Evans.
"She has some bumps and some bruises, but she says she doesn't remember anything except being pulled into a van," Evans said.
Ellyssa usually walks to and from school, but didn't make it home Friday.
Her parent's apartment is only one mile away from Fulmore Middle School, where she is an 8th grader.
Her stepmom said she called home around 4 p.m. Friday to let her parents know she was about to start walking.
It was something she did every time she headed home. "Someone walking by the ditch found her and called police," said Evans.
The discovery came around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Evans said Ellyssa was taken to an area hospital to be examined and had no signs of sexual assault.
Her father, Marvin, described his daughter as "naive" and "easily persuaded."
He told KXAN she had no reason to run away and that her not coming home on time was "out of character."
Her parents also said she had few friends at
school but believe she fell in with the wrong crowd about a month ago
and that a gang was trying to recruit her and beat her up as initiation.
"She said they were going to jump her in, you know, beat her up," Evans explained.
Evans and Ellyssa's father brought her home from the hospital around 2 a.m. Monday.
KXAN's calls to the Austin Police Department for comment have not been immediately returned.
