Casey Anthony: On WKMG, Jose Baez laments unreliable sources of news

“Fake Filing in Casey Case,” WKMG-Channel 6 headlined its noon story t0day on a bizarre twist in the Casey Anthony case.

A Michigan inmate filed a hand-written “motion” suggesting that Anthony wants to drop defense attorney Jose Baez from the case.

On “In Session” this morning, Baez ripped inaccurate reporting of a nothing story.

On WKMG-Channel 6 at noon, Baez repeated his complaints about the incorrect reporting. Tony Pipitone of WKMG said that Baez told him that news organizations that fell for the bogus document “have proven over and over again they cannot get their facts straight” and they are “an unreliable source of information.”

Those sources? WESH-Channel 2 and WFTV-Channel 9. Speculation started late Monday when journalists wondered which attorney might be leaving the case, but reporters didn’t have access to the “motion” until this morning. At 7:43 a.m. today, WESH.com reported that “Casey Anthony Asks For Jose Baez To Be Removed From Case.” And WFTV-Channel 9 described the inmate as an attorney — but what attorney would file a hand-written motion?

Pipitone noted that WKMG reported that the letter was nothing more “than an attempt by a convicted felon with a lot of time on his hands to interject himself into a case with which he has no connection.” That inmate is Curtis Jackson, who is serving up to four years for bribery and has been sentenced to up to 10 years for armed assault with intent to rob, Pipitone reported.

By talking to Pipitone, Baez seemed to be endorsing WKMG. I will say that Tony Pipitone is one of the best reporters in town.
