JENNIFER WESHO - 9 yo (1989) - Black River Falls WI

The Jackson County District Attorney has named the man believed responsible for the murder of a 9-year-old girl in 1989.
Gerald Fox says, based on DNA evidence recovered
at the scene and preserved by authorities for years after the murder of
Jennifer Wesho, led investigators to Christopher Thundercloud.
He was 38 at the time of the murder. He died in
September, 2006. According to Fox, Thundercloud was questioned by
authorities back in 1989 following the crime, but not as a suspect. He
was never considered a suspect back then says Fox.
In 2005, at the request of the family, Jackson
County Sheriff's investigators, along with state investigators, took a
new look at the case.
During the next several years, they were able to
bring new DNA technology to the case that helped link Thundercloud to
the crime.
Investigators also were able to prove that the one
man who was arrested in 1991, Dion Funmaker, did not commit the crime.
It took several years, but they were able to put together a timeline
that helped clear Funmaker.
One thing that Fox was not able to answer nearly
22 years after the crime was why Thundercloud murdered Wesho. People
who were at the news conference who knew Thundercloud were not able to
think why he did what he did.
