Judge Belvin Perry's ruling (read it) is a big blow to Casey's defense. It is because, not only do investigators say the trunk stain was made up of fatty acids that indicate human decomposition, one investigator noticed the shape of the stain resembled that of a child in the fetal position.
The defense tried to argue that the stain found in Casey's trunk was not relevant to the case. It tried to convince the judge it could have been caused by a gasoline spill, and that just about everyone has a gasoline spill in their trunk.
Perry ruled that the defense did not present any factual evidence to support that argument to prove the stain is irrelevant.
