Teen found in Saskatoon alley identified
January 4, 2011

Saskatoon police have identified a teenager whose body was found New Year's Day in a back alley on the city's west side as Bryton Stevenson, 16, of Saskatoon.

The family contacted police after photos were released showing the youth's hoodie.

An autopsy was done Tuesday morning. Later in the day, police said the results confirmed the boy was the victim of a homicide.

Police refused to disclose the cause of death but have said the boy suffered a number of injuries.

No one has been arrested.

Police were called after a resident of the 200 block of Avenue K North found the body and called 911 at about 11 a.m. CST on Jan. 1.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Saskatoon police at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Stevenson death officially ruled a homocide

A solitary memorial flame burns in the same spot where a sixteen year old life flickered out -- a boy who remained nameless until police released a photo of Bryton Stevenson's distinctive hoodie. Contacted by telephone, Stevenson's eldest brother Shaun calls what happened a "tragedy and a loss."

Shawn Stevenson says his youngest brother who lived with him, was "just a very outgoing kid and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time." He says the family doesn't know what happened and they're still searching for answers.

Police are searching for answers too -- they haven't released much information -- they were waiting for autopsy results to determing a cause of death although a family friend says the teen had been stabbed.

Stevenson's brother says Bryton was a grade 11 student at Mount Royal Collegiate. He kept fit lifting weights, did well at school, played basketball for the Mustangs and was not mixed up with gangs. Shaun Stevenson wants anyone who may know anything about what happned to come forward and talk to police.

A wake will be held leading up to a funeral on Thursday to remember Bryton Stevenson -- a boy who's life his brother says was cut too short.
