Retired Judge O.H. Eaton Jr. will be a major part of WESH-Channel 2’s coverage of the Casey Anthony trial, the station announced this morning.
“Eaton is our lead analyst. What he brings to the table no one else can bring to the table, with all due respect to everyone else,” WESH news director Bob Longo said. “It’s impressive to have someone like Judge Eaton taking the role of analyst. He spent so many years on the bench. He recently retired. He doesn’t have a dog in the hunt. You will see him a lot, beginning today.”
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. Jury selection begins May 9.
WESH noted that Eaton spent 24 years on the bench and tried hundreds of cases, including more than 20 that involved the death penalty. WESH also highlighted that Eaton trained Chief Judge Belvin Perry, who will preside at the Anthony trial.
Longo stressed that Eaton and WESH’s technology will be major components of the station’s coverage along with reporting by Bob Kealing and Amanda Ober. Viewers may see other analysts, such as Richard Hornsby and Jeff Deen, but Eaton will be the main man.
“Eaton being an analyst is a big deal,” Long said. “He is well positioned to give the most pertinent and perhaps newsworthy opinion in the market.”
