So many reporters are expected to descend on Orlando from across the country to cover the Casey Anthony murder trial that city officials are trying to figure out where to put all the TV news trucks.
Local media usually park their news vans along a drop-off lane in front of the Orange County Courthouse. But that area can accommodate only three or four vans at a time, and a slew of satellite trucks are expected to jockey for space around the courthouse to cover the trial, scheduled to begin next month and last eight weeks or more.
City officials even expect some reporters to park motor homes they'll sleep in when court's not in session.
"We need to make sure everybody is safe and traffic flows as well as possible," Mayor Buddy Dyer said. "We also have a lot of residential neighborhoods around there."
The City Council on Monday passed new rules to make sure the crush of vehicles doesn't block traffic, violate noise ordinances or trash private property. The new policy allows the owners of property within 1,000 feet of the courthouse to pull temporary permits so they can rent out their land as "media staging areas."
