Re: "Toddler Jane" WILLIS-COLLIE - x yo - Cottage Grove (Hwy 5; S of Eugene) OR
EUGENE, Ore.-- A three-year-old girl found wandering alone at Coiner
Park in Cottage Grove is warm, well-fed and safe. But the little girl's
mother, Diane Willis is now in jail charged with child neglect. Her
father, Karl Collie is fighting to get her back from DHS.
Cottage Grove police say this little girl was hungry, disheveled and
wearing a soggy diaper when they found her Tuesday afternoon, after she
had to fend for herself for several hours.
"People need a license to have a baby now, cause they don't take care of them," said Kristin Vreeland, a concerned parent.
"She could have gotten kidnapped by just some stranger on the road.
Or she could have gotten hit by a car," said Hannah Dexter, a concerned
mother.
Police say Diane Willis put her daughter down for a nap around one
o'clock Tuesday and then she herself took an alcohol-induced nap. But
while Willis was asleep, her little girl slipped out the back door,
walking a few blocks alone to Coiner Park.
Police were first told about this little girl left alone at Coiner
Park on Main Street about 1:45 Tuesday afternoon. According to someone
who saw the little girl, not only was she walking alone in the park, she
wandered into a nearby street.
"We cleaned her up, put a new diaper on her, put some clean clothes
on her, she had a urine-soaked diaper," said Cottage Grove Police
Officer David Burgin. "We fed her some chicken nuggets and macaroni and
cheese. So at that point she was pretty happy."
When the child's father, Karl Collie, came home from work around 3:30 pm, he says he assumed the girls were both napping.
"About an hour and a half after the father came home is when she woke
up and started inquiring as to the whereabouts of their daughter," said
Officer Burgin.
At about the same time as that realization, his daughter's photo
aired on KEZI 9 News at 5, as part of an effort by local police to
locate the girl's parents.
"Dad came down here to file a missing persons report, when on his way
friends called him to advise him they'd seen pictures of his daughter
on the news," said Burgin.
Police say Willis and Collie are devastated, but parents at the park say, that doesn't cut it with them.
"It could have just been a mistake. That one time, but it could've lost that child its life," said Sean Wenz, a parent.
A custody hearing will be scheduled soon. Collie has not been charged
for anything. Willis could face up to one year in jail for the
misdemeanor.http://kezi.com/news/local/211398

I'm so thankful a monster didn't snatch this little baby. I hope the father takes measures to protect his baby from her mother.
