Police searching for missing Viroqua teen


VIROQUA - Police are searching for a 17-year-old Viroqua girl
believed to have run away to Boulder, Colo., with her 19-year-old boyfriend.

Cammy Speck was reported missing May 1. Police suspect she is
with her boyfriend, Randal McNall, Viroqua Assistant Police Chief Daron Jefson said.
Police in both communities are working together to find the teens.
On Thursday, police found a car they had borrowed from McNall's
friend in the parking lot of Boulder High School.
The couple is believed to have taken two bicycles and camping
gear with them. Speck's bicycle is purple.
Speck is white 5 feet, 4 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
"We have heard little to nothing of what their plans were,"
Jefson said. "We do believe McNall called [Viroqua] and left a
message saying ‘We're OK' and then hung up. We traced that call to a pay phone in Boulder."
Viroqua police regularly deal with reports of missing children.
In 2010, the department tracked four separate cases.
"Normally we get them back quickly, in a couple days," Jefson
said. "Often they just go to a friend's house and don't want to go
home. The longest we've had one missing recently was for two weeks,
and that [person] was found in Florida."
Jefson said Boulder police plan to distribute a photo of Speck.
The school where the car was found is adjacent to a large city park.
"If she would call home, or turn herself into police there,
that's what we would hope for," Jefson said.
The Boulder Daily Camera ran a story on Speck Wednesday morning.
The population of Boulder is about 100,000.
Speck's information has been entered into a national Internet
database law enforcement uses to find missing children.
Speck has not been in any significant trouble with the law,
Jefson said. In 2006, Speck was featured in the Vernon County
Broadcaster with the members of Viroqua's Sixth Grade Junior Girl
Scout Troop 198 for their volunteerism in Viroqua.
When it comes to volunteering, Speck said, "You feel good after
you do something good for someone else."

A 17-year-old Viroqua girl who had been missing since April 30
turned herself in to Olympia, Wash., authorities Tuesday
morning.

Cammy Speck's family reported her missing on May 1. The Viroqua
Police Department worked with a nationwide network that searches
for missing children. In particular, the Viroqua police worked with
authorities in Boulder, Colo., California, and Olympia.

Viroqua Assistant Police Chief Daron Jefson said Speck's mother
left early Tuesday morning from O'Hare International Airport in
Chicago to travel to Olympia to pick up her daughter.

"The investigation worked out and everything is fine, luckily,"
Jefson said.
