Son Convicted in Northridge Family Massacre

NORTHRIDGE -- A 25-year old man accused in the brutal murders of his adoptive parents and teenage sister plead guilty Thursday to 3 counts of first degree murder.
Prosecutors say Brandon Christopher Menard also admitted to a “special circumstance allegation of multiple murders” and an allegation that he used a firearm in causing the death of his father.
58-year-old David Menard and his wife Toni, 58, were found dead inside their home in the 17000 block of Stare Street in 2006.
The coroner reported that David Menard, a real estate agent, was stabbed 17 times with a 13 1/2-inch knife with a 7 1/2- inch blade and shot once in the jaw, while his wife, a nurse, was stabbed four times.
David Menard had also been shot.
Their 16-year-old daughter, Ashley, was found dead in the back yard.
She was stabbed eight times.
Prosecutors say she still had a cordless phone in her hand that she had used to call 911 to report the gunfire.
Menard reported finding the bodies.
He was later arrested.
Menard faces three consecutive sentences of life in prison without parole, in addition to a term of 25 years to life.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 2.
Prosecutors say they still have no motive for the killings.

LOS ANGELES – A 26-year-old man convicted last month of the 2006 triple slaying of his parents and teenage sister was sentenced today to spend the remainder of his life in prison.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen sentenced Brandon Christopher Menard to three consecutive sentences of life in prison without parole, plus a term of 25 years to life.
Family members and close friends of the victims made victim impact statements to the court.
Menard pleaded guilty on May 12 to three counts of first-degree murder and admitted a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. The defendant additionally admitted the allegation that he personally used a firearm causing death to his father.
Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman prosecuted the case.
Menard killed his parents and 16-year-old sister in August 2006 at the family’s Northridge home. All of the victims were stabbed multiple times.
The bodies of David Menard, 58, a real estate agent, and his wife, Toni, 58, a nurse, were found inside their home in the 17000 block of Stare Street in Northridge. Their daughter, Ashley, a high school student, was found dead in the back yard.
