Orlando, FL – It was just after 5 a.m. when the crowd threatened to get ugly again. Police had already been called once that night. Now, they were hovering to keep a watchful eye on the line of 100 or so people who were waiting Saturday morning for courtroom seats to the trial of Florida v. Casey Anthony.
Tracy Bucciarrelli from Chicago was threatening to jump the line, and she was confronted by angry "Sharpies" yelling, “You’re a trouble maker!”
The "Sharpies" are those in line who have agreed to abide by a crowd-imposed honor system in which people write numbers on the backs of their hands with a Sharpie pen. The number represents their place in line, and those who participate agree to honor the Sharpie order.
It was Karen Jennings’ pen and her idea. She was as at the courthouse earlier in the week when a stampede caused one woman to be trampled, and paramedics were called to the scene. The woman suffered only minor injuries, but the incident irked Jennings.
