ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's defense team called a forensic geologist and a forensic toxicologist from the FBI as its first witnesses on Wednesday in her murder trial.
Casey is accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony. Wednesday marks day 36, including jury selection, of her trial.
Casey entered the courtroom just after 8:50 a.m., wearing a white and blue striped button-down shirt and dark pants. She had her hair pulled back in a long pony tail. George and Cindy Anthony were present in the courtroom.
Judge Belvin Perry said Wednesday will only be a half-day because he must attend a judge's meeting.
Maureen Bottrell, one of three forensic geologists working for the FBI, testified that she analyzed 22 pairs of shoes taken from the Anthony home. She said three pairs of shoes had significant enough amounts of soil to compare with soil samples taken from the site where the skeletal remains of Caylee were found in a wooded area behind the home on Suburban Drive.
