Poster's Note: It is so sad to think how many loving parents have lost children to disease, and how many "diseased" parents have killed children that would lovingly have been taken in by someone else. Just give the babies up if they annoy you - and don't keep having more! (Not sure if I did this right but wanted to post it-just abominable.)
Calif mom arraigned in microwave death of baby June 24, 2011
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A Northern California woman accused of killing her baby in a microwave oven was arraigned Thursday on murder charges that could lead to the death penalty if she is convicted.
Prosecutors charged Ka Yang, 29, with one count of murder with the special circumstance that the killing was intentional and involved torture, which would make her eligible for the death penalty or life in prison without parole, the Sacramento Bee reported.
Authorities found Yang's 6-week-old daughter, Mirabelle Thao-Lo, dead in the family home in Sacramento on March 17.
Officials say the child suffered "extensive thermal injuries." The girl was burned from head-to-toe, but authorities could not find an obvious source for the burns when they arrived at the home, according to the affidavit written by Sacramento Police Detective Thomas Shrum.
The infant's pajamas and hair were not singed. A pacifier, however, was found in the microwave, Shrum said.
Yang initially told investigators she blacked out while working on the computer with Mirabelle in her arms and woke up on the ground with the baby injured next to a space heater. Although she had a history of seizures, paramedics did not find her to be disoriented when they arrived, according to the affidavit.
When detectives pointed out inconsistencies in her story, Yang later acknowledged she lied and said she might have a split personality, the affidavit said.
Police interviewed Yang's family and co-workers as well as pathologists who have worked on microwave burn cases in the months after the infant's death. They have not established a possible motive.
"Nothing (Yang) gave us explained what led up to the baby being killed," police spokesman Norm Leong told the Bee.
Yang was arrested Tuesday after a monthslong investigation into what caused the baby's severe burn injuries.
She did not enter a plea in court Thursday.
Yang's court-appointed attorney, Linda Parisi, expressed doubts about her client's mental health.
"I think there is no question there is clearly some psychological issues that will have to be investigated," Parisi told reporters outside the courtroom, according to KXTV.
The woman's other three children, all under age 7, were removed from the home the day their sister was found dead. They are now living with relatives.

Mom Accused Of Killing Baby In Microwave Is Pregnant Again
July 14, 2011 12:18 PM
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A Sacramento mother accused of killing her infant
daughter by putting her in a microwave oven is reportedly pregnant
again.
Ka Yang, 29, was back in court for a hearing in the case against her.
She is accused of killing her 6-week-old daughter, Mirabele Thao-Lo, in the kitchen microwave on March 17.
Yang broke down in tears as more than twenty member of the Hmong community turned out to support her.
Yang’s attorney says she is suffering from a number of different illnesses.
“There is concern about her medical condition,” said Ka Yang’s
attorney Linda Parisi. “Obviously, I’m not at liberty to talk about her
medical condition but she has many medical as well as psychological
issues that need to be addressed.”
Sources also tell CBS13 that Yang is pregnant again. Yang has three
other children who are being cared for by their grandparents.
Yang has not entered a plea and will return back to court on August third.
Before her arrest, Yang spoke exclusively with CBS13 and claimed her
baby, Mirabelle, died after Yang suffered a seizure and dropped the baby.

Mom Accused Of Microwaving Baby Appears In Court
August 3, 2011 3:12 PM
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The case of a woman accused of
killing her 6-week-old daughter by putting her in the microwave was
delayed Wednesday as her attorneys await more evidence.
Prosecutors agreed to push back the hearing for Ka Yang to Aug.
26, who has not entered a plea to a charge of murder in the death of her
daughter, Mirabelle.
The count includes a special circumstance that the death was
intentional and involved torture, which makes the 29-year-old eligible
for the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
Yang, a mother of four who has been held without bail, often bowed
her head during the appearance in Sacramento County Superior Court,
covering her face with her long hair as she cried.
She was charged in June after authorities found the baby dead and
covered in burns in the family’s Sacramento home March 17. Police say
the child suffered “extensive thermal injuries” but could not find a
cause until a pacifier was discovered in the microwave.
Investigators say Yang told them she had been working on a
computer when she blacked out with Mirabelle in her arms. She said she
woke up on the ground to find Mirabelle injured next to a space heater,
according to an arrest affidavit from Sacramento police Detective Thomas
Shrum.
The infant’s clothing and hair were not singed. According to the
affidavit, Yang told them she might have a split personality when
detectives asked about inconsistencies in her story.
She has a history of seizures, but paramedics said she did not
appear to be disoriented when they arrived at her house, according to
the affidavit.
Her attorney, Linda Parisi, has said her client might have psychological problems.
Yang’s other three children, all under the age of 7, are living with relatives.

Mother Accused Of Killing Baby In Microwave Appears In Court
February 21, 2012 8:29 PM
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Disturbing details came out of court today as a
mother accused of killing her own baby sat in front of a judge.
In an interview with CBS13, Ka Yang said: “I never thought that with my seizure I will lose my little girl.”
Timid and soft spoken, Yang told the story we have heard for nearly a
year now: she had a seizure and blacked out on the day she allegedly
killed her daughter in a microwave.
“There are many complex medical as well as psychological issues that
need to be fully developed in this case,” said Yang’s attorney, Linda
Parisi.
In court on Tuesday more details about Yang’s defense emerged during her preliminary hearing.
Our cameras not allowed inside as Parisi argued that her client
suffers a type of seizure that causes her to make irrational decisions —
ones her client said she can’t remember.
“So they appear to be engaging in intentional conduct, but the truth
is it is sort of automatic. It’s robotic. It is not the product of
careful and rational thought,” said Parisi.
Prosecutors called a forensic pathologist to the stand who says
yang’s 2-month-old daughter, Mirabelle Thao-lo, was put inside of a
microwave and suffered burns on 80 percent of her body. Some of the
burns were as deep as her internal organs.
An investigator on the case who was also called to the stand says
that while Yang changed her story several times, she also told them she
loved Mirabelle and would never kill her.
“It’s very difficult. This is a very tragic case; a mother has lost her child,” said Parisi.
The judge also decided there’s enough evidence to also try Yang for torture. Her trial date has not yet been set.

Sacramento Mom Accused Of Microwaving Baby Pleads Not Guilty
March 16, 2012 8:56 PM
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A Sacramento woman has pleaded not guilty
to killing her 7-week-old daughter by placing her in a microwave oven
one year ago.
Prosecutors say Ka Yang entered the plea Friday after a Sacramento
County Superior Court judge ruled last month that there was enough
evidence to justify murder and torture charges. The trial is scheduled
for June 21.
Prosecutors ruled out seeking the death penalty, but Yang faces life
in prison without parole if she is convicted of killing her daughter,
Mirabelle. Her three other children have been placed with relatives.
She has been jailed since June after investigators determined her baby died of “extensive thermal injuries” last March 17.
Yang’s defense attorney, Linda Parisi, says she intends to demonstrate that her client suffers from a serious seizure disorder.

Mother Sentenced To Life For Cooking Infant In The Microwave
NOV 13
SACRAMENTO, California— A Hmong mother who does not speak English has escaped the death penalty and has been sentenced to life in prison for microwaving her 6-week-old daughter like a piece of meat.
On March 17, 2011 police arrived at the home of 29-year-old Ka Yang and found her 6-week-old-daughter, Mirablee Thao-Lo, dead.
Officials say the child suffered “extensive thermal injuries.” The girl was burned from head-to-toe, but authorities could not find an obvious source for the burns when they arrived at the home, according to the affidavit written by Sacramento Police Detective Thomas Shrum. However after one detective opened the microwave, he found a melted pacifier in it.
When authorities arrived at the home Yang who has a history of seizures was very calm and didn’t seem disoriented. It was apparent that she didn’t have a seizure that day.
Although when she was initially questioned Yang told investigators while working on the computer with Mirabelle in her arms she blacked out and saw bright lights due to a seizure, and woke up on the ground with the baby injured next to a space heater.
She tried to lead investigators to believe the extensive burns on the baby came from accidental exposure to the space heater.
When detectives pointed out inconsistencies in her story, Yang later acknowledged she lied and said she might have a split personality.
Upon being told a pacifier was found in the microwave Yang admitted to putting her baby in the cooking device and pressing start.
Yang cooked little Mirabelle on high heat. The babies insides were fried.
A pathologist testified during the trial that the2 minutesof radiation from the microwave essentially cooked the child’s stomach and small intestine.
There was no motive in this case. Yang simply snapped and cooked her baby to death.
Yang’s court-appointed attorney, Linda Parisi, expressed doubts about her client’s mental health.
“I think there is no question there is clearly some psychological issues that will have to be investigated,” Parisi told reporters outside the courtroom.
Yang’s other three children, all under age 7, were removed from the home the day their sister was found dead. They are now living with relatives.
Yang has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
