Parents charged after baby's death

LEXINGTON, KY (AP) - Kentucky State Police have arrested a Richmond couple after their 7-month-old daughter died at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Police say William Dawes is charged with murder and his wife, Diana Dawes, is charged with abuse and complicity. Their daughter, Serenity Dawes, was taken to UK Hospital on Friday when she stopped breathing. Doctors told police the child, who died Saturday, had a fractured skull, retinal hemorrhaging, a broken leg and bruising.

Police arrested the couple after an autopsy was performed on Monday.

William Dawes denied the charges when he spoke to WKYT-TV from the Madison County jail. Dawes told the station that he has "never put my hands on my baby girl."
