MESQUITE — Mesquite police have asked for the public's help to find a child who has been missing since Friday.
Police said Misty Stevens was last seen headed to a Dallas grocery
store with her mother's boyfriend, 40-year-old Andy Paul McCauley.
Mesquite police spokesman Lt. Bill Hedgepeth said there is no
evidence of foul play and the incident does not meet the requirements to
issue an Amber Alert.
Misty Stevens is four feet tall and weighs 50 lbs. She has dark
brown, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes, and she was last seen
wearing a pink T-shirt with a horse on it, white pants with "swirly"
design and white dress shoes.
McCauley was driving a tan 1994 Honda Accord station wagon with Texas license 539-CVS.

MESQUITE, Texas - Mesquite Police are asking
for the public's assistance in locating a child who they believe was
taken by her mother's boyfriend. Police say 5-year-old Misty
Victoria Stevens disappeared from her Mesquite home on Friday afternoon.
The girl's mother told police Misty went with her boyfriend, Andy Paul
McCauley, to go to a grocery store in Dallas. When they did not return
by 6 a.m. Saturday morning the mother called police. Misty is 4
feet tall and approximately 50 pounds. She has shoulder-length brown
hair and was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt with a horse on it, white
legging-style pants, and white dress shoes. McCauley was driving a
tan 1994 Honda Accord station wagon, Texas L/P 539-CVS. He is 40 years
old, 6 feet tall and 170 pounds with brown graying hair. Police
say on Saturday afternoon, McCauley called his house and said he was
coming back to the house with Misty, but he has not yet returned. They
were last seen in the area of Jim Miller and I-30 at a convenience store
about 3 p.m. Anyone who has information about McCauley's or Misty's whereabouts is asked to call the police.

ANOTHER MOTHER WHO IS OBVIOUSLY MORE WORRIED ABOUT GETTING HER BOYFRIEND IN TROUBLE THAT GETTING HER DAUGHTER BACK SAFE.
She didn't call LE until the next day when they had supposedly just gone to the store Friday afternoon? The new law re reporting a missing child is going to be useless if a parent/caregiver can't be charged unless they waited more than 24 hours. Statistics show the first 2 hours are crucial.
This should have been an amber alert. Hopefully she can be charged with child neglect!

Mesquite, Texas—

Five year-old Misty Stevens was last seen wearing
a pink t-shirt with a horse on it, white legging style pants with
swirly designs and white dress shoes. She's 4 feet tall and weighs about
50 pounds and has shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes.She
was last seen with 40 year old Andy Maul McCauley. Mesquite police say
Misty is the daughter of McCauley's girlfriend. On Friday evening,
McCauley left his residence on San Marcus in Mesquite with the girl
heading to a grocery store in Dallas. By Saturday morning, the two had
not returned.
Early Saturday afternoon, police say they spoke to McCauley and he agreed to return Misty but he didn't follow through.Around 3 p.m., the two were seen at a convenience store near I-30 and Jim Miller.McCauley has a record that includes theft and assault but he is not a sex offender.The fact that no Amber Alert has been issued likely means police don't believe the child is in any danger.We
spoke to a neighbor who didn't want to go on camera but says he knows
the family and it appears McCauley was trying to protect the child from
her mother when he took offMcCauley is driving a 1994 tan Honda

MESQUITE — The search for five-year-old Misty Victoria Stevens ended early Sunday morning with her safe return to her mother.
Misty was found with her mother's boyfriend, Andy Paul McCauley, who
had taken the child to a store on Friday and failed to return.
Mesquite police spokesman Lt. Bill Hedgepeth said Dallas police
spotted McCauley drive away from a suspected drug location near Barry
Road and Grand Avenue in southeast Dallas shortly after midnight
Saturday.
Officers stopped the car and arrested McCauley.
Misty — who appeared to be unhurt — was taken to be reunited with her mother, Hedgepeth said.
McCauley was booked into the Dallas County Jail on charges of driving
while intoxicated with a child; running a red light; possession of drug
paraphernalia; failing to present a drivers license; and a violation of
the state inspection law. No bond was set.

I'm happy Misty was found safe, but I've got a problem with her being returned to her mother. Authorities are trying to get people to be involved and help children if they are in danger, yet they think a mother who has a druggy boyfriend and lets him even take Misty to the store isn't in danger? A mother who didn't report her daughter missing? Why hasn't he been charged with kidnapping? Did the mother refuse to press charges? Why didn't the reporter ask more about the situation?

I do not wish to add to your frustration, but I live 10 miles from Mesquite (I grew up there) and I never heard a word about a missing child here. I just saw it on FB, googled for more info, J4C link came up...must have missed it on here. My ex-fiance (decades ago - his brother is married to my bf, so we will have frequent contact) is now a Sgt in Mesquite and I will contact him to ask that they look closer - for the saftey of the child.

The mere fact that she allowed him to have contact with her child (I would wager that drinking and drugs were part of his day to day activities and mom knew it) SCREAMS NEGLECT- totally baffles me too Kiwi!

Kiwi, we are always on the same page with these children.

I thought that he took her to protect her from her mother.
