Human remains confirmed as boy, 6, missing in 2009

The human remains found by berry pickers in the area of Sandy Bay, in Saskatchewan's north, have been positively identified as a boy who went missing and was presumed to have drowned in 2009.
Travis Misponas went missing while playing with friends near the Churchill River.
RCMP reported Friday that the remains of six-year-old Travis Misponas were found Aug. 15. He was last seen on Nov. 28, 2009, playing with a group of children near the Churchill River.
"Based on the investigation, Travis Misponas was presumed to have slipped into the river," RCMP said in a news release about the case. "Immediate searches at the time did not locate Travis."
Police also said that the shoreline was searched and there was evidence of a child having fallen into the river.
Police also conducted an aerial search of the Sandy Bay area,
looking for the missing boy. RCMP
Underwater searches at the time were unsuccessfull in locating a body.
Police said a follow-up aerial search in the summer of 2010 did not yield any results.
It wasn't until August of this year that human remains were found by local berry pickers who quickly notified the RCMP. "The remains were sent for DNA testing which concluded that they were that of Travis," police said.
