Toronto police are seeking the public's help in locating a missing autistic teen last seen near a North York junior high.


Stephen Liu, 14, is described as having high-functioning autism.
He was last seen Tuesday around 3 p.m. at Zion Heights
junior high school at Leslie and Steeles.

A search team with a canine unit has been searching the Leslie and Steeles area for Stephen Liu, 14, who was last seen riding his bicycle shortly after leaving Zion Heights Junior High School around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The boy is described by police as being a high-functioning autistic.

"He has no history of going missing, and that's what concerns us, is that there is no pattern or previous occurrences," Staff-Sgt. John Babier said.

Liu is introverted, Babier said, and likely won't approach strangers. He is of Asian descent, around five feet six inches tall, with short black hair, and a slim build. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans and a black hoodie.

Anyone with more information is asked to go directly to the police search command centre set up at Rameau Drive and Lehar Crescent.

The boy's family said it's unusual for the youth not to come straight home after school. Police said they hope he stayed overnight at a friend's home.

The Toronto Police Service would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance locating a missing boy.

Stephen Liu, 14, was last seen on Monday, September 20, 2011, in the Leslie Street/Cummer Avenue area.

He was located on Tuesday, September 21, 2011, in the Brimley Avenue/Sheppard Avenue East area by police officers.
