Casey Anthony: What about a TV movie?

Lifetime will serve the TV movie version of a Central Florida story tonight. “Girl Fight,” premiering at 9, takes as its starting point the true story of a girl whose beating by classmates became an Internet sensation.
But writer Benita “Bonnie” Garvin told me she wasn’t trying to tell that girl’s story. “It was inspired by her story, but I don’t see it as her story,” she said. The characters have made-up names. Garvin acknowledged that she created scenes and conversations to tell a more universal story about an Internet trend.
“TV is not meant to be a documentary. If you want real life, you shouldn’t turn to these movies for that,” Garvin said.
So what does Garvin think will happen with another famous Central Florida story, the Casey Anthony case?
“When stories get that much attention, it’s hard to believe someone isn’t going after it,” Garvin said. “You don’t have to have rights. There’s so much in the public domain.”
Ten or 15 years ago, there might have been three Casey Anthony movies, Garvin said, but now there aren’t many people making TV movies.
Do you consider that a blessing?
