Ja'MARSAY SUMMERFIELD - 2 yo - Shreveport LA
Shreveport Police have made an arrest in
the death of a Shreveport toddler whose body was found late Thursday in
his mother's backyard shed.
The mother's
boyfriend, 26-year-old Tristan Anderson is charged with First Degree
Homicide in the death of two-year-old Ja'Marsay Summerfield.
Police
say the investigation began in the late evening of Wednesday, October
19th, when 28-year-old Tamera Summerfield notified police and filed a
missing persons report on her son. Summerfield told police she had
left the child with Anderson October 7th, and believed Ja'marsay was in
the joint custody of Anderson's mother and sister.
In the early evening of Thursday, October
20th, Shreveport Police Investigators went to a residence in the 8500
block of Panetella Lane, a house shared by both Tamera Summerfield and
Anderson. During a welfare search around the residence, investigators
discovered the toddler's body in a storeroom located off the carport
area.
Further interviewing of witnesses lead
investigators to believe the toddler was last seen in the custody of
Anderson, who was subsequently arrested and booked into the city jail
for one count of First Degree Homicide.
The investigation is continuing.

Re: Ja'MARSAY SUMMERFIELD - 2 yo - Shreveport LA
Friends and family gathered Saturday morning to mourn the death of
Ja'marsay Summerfield, 2, at a funeral at the Lakeside Baptist Church.Ja'marsay's
body was found in a shed connected to his mother's home in the 8500
block Panatella Lane on Oct. 20, one day after she reported him missing
to police.
Tamera
Summerfield said she believed Ja'marsay was staying with her boyfriend's
family in Texas but reported him missing when she was unable to get in
contact with him.
"I
kept calling them and calling them," the 28-year-old said. "And his
(her boyfriend's) mama and sister kept telling me they had my baby. They
were going to bring him home."
The funeral was tear-filled but focused on the hope of a brighter future.
Pastor
Frank Taylor led the service, quoting Luke 18:16: "Suffer little
children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the
kingdom of God."
"We come with saddened but open hearts," Taylor said, "that we may find strength in difficult times."
The
service included a number of gospel hymns, including a soul-moving
chorus of "Joy Will Come" and a praise dance performed by Appolonia
Combs.
The service
set aside a few moments for expressions, where friends, family and
church members could say a few words in honor of Ja'marsay.
"We need healing words in this time of bereavement," Taylor said.
A
poem was read assuring Tamera that her son was "close at hand," in
spirit and an anecdotal story was told about Ja'marsay's infancy from
his godmother.
Harry
Blake, pastor of Mount Canaan Baptist Church, expressed sadness over
the trends he thought the community was experiencing. Blake used the
example of the passion of Christ in the New Testament of the Bible to
show that God's son was innocent and was killed to help console the
bereaved.
"How can
we make sense of this, is there any way to understand?" Blake asked.
"An innocent child never having done anything to anybody, how can it
come to this?"
"God
would say, 'I had a son, an innocent son. As soon as he was born, Herod
sought to kill him,'" Blake said. "God's son who did no harm, and they
killed him."
Blake continued his oration with a social commentary.
"If
blacks in America would look at the state of our situation, they would
see Satan is out to get us," Blake said. "He sends men with jet planes
and money to get our sons hooked on drugs to destroy their brains and
senses."
Blake evoked emotional responses from many individuals in the crowd.
"We don't need the Ku Klux Klan and lynchmen to kill us," Blake said. "We're doing enough killing to ourselves."
The
funeral comes in the wake of the arrest of Tamera's boyfriend, Tristan
Anderson, 26, of Shreveport, who has been charged with one count of
first-degree murder in connection with Ja'marsay's death. Anderson
remains in custody awaiting trial.
Police
said the investigation is still open and ongoing, and many facts have
yet to be discovered. They said some family members may be interviewed
again until the story is fully understood.

Charges dropped against suspect in toddler death
Posted: Dec 12, 2011 1:34 PM CST
Updated: Dec 12, 2011 2:41 PM CST
The man arrested in the death two-year-old Ja'Marsay Summerfield back in October is out of jail and no longer facing charges in the toddler's death.
The child's body was found by police in a locked storage room at his mother's house in the 8500 block of Panatella on October 20th, nearly two weeks after he was reportedly last seen with relatives.
28-year-old Tamara Summerfield told police that her son had been left with relatives of her boyfriend, and was never returned. She reported Ja'Marsay missing October 19th. Her boyfriend, 26-year-old Tristan Anderson, was arrested three days later and charged with First Degree Homicide.
An arrest report obtained by KSLA News 12 says the child's body was found in hamper inside the locked storage room, and that a key to that storage room was found on Anderson's possession.
Anderson was due in court for a preliminary examination Monday, but his defense attorney's office confirms they received word late Friday of the charges against Anderson being dropped.
The Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office will only say that the charges against Anderson were rejected.
Caddo Parish Coroner Dr. Todd Thoma has not released any details on the child's cause of death. The coroner's findings have been turned over to investigators.

I am going to leave this story in this room for the time being. I would expect another arrest in this case, possibly the mother, who may have been trying to frame the boyfriend.

Yeah Tom. Why in the world would she leave her son with her boyfriend and his family when he's not even the father. Sounds fishy to me.

A murder charge against a Shreveport man accused of killing his girlfriend's 2-year-old son has been rejected.Tristan
Anderson, 26, was released from jail Friday, according to the Caddo
district attorney's office. Pat Culverhouse, Caddo District Court
spokesman, would not comment on the circumstances of the case. He would
only say "apparently there was a determination by our office."
Culverhouse, however, stressed the difference between charges being
dismissed and rejected. "'Dismissed' means gone for good," he said.
"'Rejected' means if there is an ongoing investigation, the charges
could be filed again."
Anderson's
attorney, Daryl Gold, said that is just semantics. He said he received a
fax Friday afternoon informing him there was no need for the
preliminary hearing — used to determine if there's enough evidence to go
to trial — scheduled for Monday.
"It's over as far as I'm concerned," Gold said. "There was no indication they were going to do what they did."
But
Gold said charges still could be brought against his client in the
future. He hasn't tried to contact Anderson since Anderson was released
and said Anderson hasn't called either.
"I
don't know why they did that," Gold said. "But based on what our
investigation revealed, we didn't believe they had any evidence on him. I
assumed they had some evidence they were going to reveal on Monday that
we didn't know about."
Anderson
was arrested Oct. 21 after authorities found Ja'Marsay Summerfield's
body locked inside a storage room outside the child's mother's house.
The toddler had been dead about five days.
Summerfield
hadn't been seen since Oct. 7, according to police. Tamara Summerfield
notified police Oct. 19 her child was missing. She told police she
believed her son was with Anderson's mother and sister.
Police arrested Anderson after determining he was the last person to have the child.
