Suit filed by woman who was grilled by cops after baby Caylee's disappearance; Anthony keeps mum throughout proceedings
Tuesday, November 1 2011, 3:05 PM
Casey Anthony knows she has the right to remain silent.
The acquitted child killer invoked her constitutional right against self-incrimination 60 times during a recent deposition in a civil suit, CNN reported after reviewing a transcript of the testimony.
The suit was brought by a woman who claims her life was shattered after she was swept up in the sensational murder case of Anthony's daughter, Caylee, the news station said.
Zenaida Gonzalez claims she lost her job, her house and received death threats in the weeks after Anthony told police investigating Caylee's disappearance that the tot's nanny - whom the young mom identified as Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez -- kidnapped her.
Gonzalez was questioned and swore to police that she never met Anthony or baby Caylee.
During the deposition on Oct. 8, Anthony's lawyer, Charles Greene, invoked the 5th Amendment on dozens of questions, including whether Anthony had ever met Gonzalez, whether Caylee ever had a nanny named Zenaida, and the last day she saw her baby alive, CNN said.
Anthony also kept mum when Gonzalez's lawyers asked if she thought she was a good mother and whether "Zenaida Gonzalez" was the name of one of her imaginary friends, as her defense team claimed during the highly-publicized trial in Florida this summer, CNN said.
When questioned about Anthony's silent stance, her attorney, Charles Greene, said "I need not explain our factual basis other than to tell you that it could tend to incriminate and provide a link in the chain of evidence that could be used against (Anthony)," according to the transcript.
Gonzalez's lawyer, John Morgan, said he expected to bring the proceedings before a judge soon in order to get Anthony talking.
Anthony, 25, has kept a low profile since she was acquitted of murdering 2-year-old Caylee in July.

Asked by Gonzalez's attorney John Morgan what pending criminal case that applies to, Greene said, "We made our objection and that's all I'm going to state."
Morgan told Greene he anticipates a hearing before a judge on a motion to compel Anthony to answer some of these questions. Greene said that taking it to a judge is "the best thing to do."
While Anthony was acquitted on murder charges in Caylee's death, she was convicted on four counts of lying to authorities investigating the child's disappearance. She was given credit for time already spent behind bars, however, and was released from jail July 17.
She has remained in seclusion since then, although a judge ruled she must serve a year of probation stemming from her 2010 conviction on check fraud charges. The transcript of the deposition notes that Anthony participated via videoconference from "an undisclosed location."
"I hope that you and your counsel understand that we did not ask questions that many people may have wished we did concerning your employment history then or now, where you live, where you stay," Morgan told Anthony as questioning wrapped up. "... We did this, this deposition, in pursuit of truth and not in pursuit of sensation."
