Volusia County deputies have found a 1-year-old girl who was reported missing Saturday.

Lupita Gonzalez was found at 3:20 p.m. under a bush in a field in northwest Volusia County, deputies said. The girl appeared to be fine, but she is being checked at a hospital as a precaution.

Carlos Rivera, 23, called 911 about 4:45 a.m. to report that he saw Lupita Gonzalez at a party on Lawrence Street in Seville on Thursday, deputies said.

Rivera then told investigators the approximate location of where he had left her on Friday, they said. He had met the girl and her mother for the first time at the party, where drugs had been ingested, deputies said.

Lupita's mother, Leah Wiley, 30, of Astor, and Rivera were arrested.

Rivera faces charges of kidnapping and child abuse and also was arrested on three warrants out of Putnam County charging him with failing to appear in court on charges of grand theft, DUI and driving without a valid driver's license, Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.

Wiley is accused of child neglect for failing to make any effort to report her daughter missing, Davidson said.

During questioning, Rivera told investigators that he had paid Wiley to have sex with her.

"He said that he got mad because the sex was interrupted when Wiley was called to another room, so he decided to take her daughter and leave the house," Davidson said. "With no food, water or other provisions, Rivera took off with Wiley's daughter at approximately 7 a.m. on Friday."

Davidson said the two crossed U.S. Highway 17 and headed north along the railroad tracks.

"Along the way, Rivera worried that he might get in trouble for taking the girl," Davidson said. "So he abandoned her in a field near a wooded area and then walked back to the highway and got a ride back to Putnam County."

Deputies on foot and in a sheriff's helicopter searched for the girl for nearly 12 hours before they found her.

The Florida Department of Children and Families has taken custody of the child and Wiley's two other children, Davidson said.

The man accused of kidnapping a 1-year-old girl and leaving her in a field for over 24 hours will remain in jail.

A judge ordered that Carlos Rivera, 23, be held without bond
Sunday. The judge ruled that Rivera is a flight risk. He is also wanted
in Putnam County for not appearing in court on a number of charges,
including grand theft auto.

Officials said River reported the girl, Lupita Gonzales,
missing early Saturday morning. Gonzales was found Saturday afternoon
under a bush in a field. Deputies say she appeared to be okay.

Deputies say Carlos Rivera, 23, confessed to taking Gonzales and leaving her in the field.

Rivera and the child's mother, Leah Wiley, 30, were at a
party Thursday where illegal drugs were being used. They say Rivera told
them he was upset because he had paid Wiley to have sex with him while
they were at the party, but they were interrupted.

Deputies say Rivera took the child around 7 a.m. Friday, became worried that he might get in trouble, and abandoned her.

Wiley appeared before the judge at Sunday for charges of
child neglect and for failing to report her child missing to law
enforcement. Bond was set at $10,00, even though the State Attorney's
office recommended a bond of $1,500.

Deputies say Wiley suspected Rivera took the child, but she
did not report it because she didn't want the child's father to find out
she had sex with Rivera.

Gonzales and Wiley's two other children are now in DCF custody.

Praise God the baby survived! Wow that's a miracle despite her loser of a mother. I hope the baby and her siblings can find a safe home. Hope the mom and kidnapper are prosecuted.
