OAKTOWN, Ind. (WTHI) - Southern Indiana authorities search a rural area near the swollen Wabash River for a missing teen.
Knox County authorities say 19-year-old Clinton Hamilton of Bicknell was last seen early Sunday morning.
A search of flooded fields and an investigation is underway into his disappearance.
The flooded fields along the Wabash River in western Knox County may well have turned dangerous over the weekend.
Authorities say Hamilton disappeared in the area after taking some friends for ride in the rural area.
"They
were just out driving Saturday night and for one reason or another the
truck drowned out and he was going to stay with his truck and that's the
last time we had word of him," said Indiana Conservation Officer Tony
Mann.
The disappearance set off a search on Sunday that extended
into Monday with family and friends working the area and officers
concentrating their efforts in the water.
"We've got more family
and friends out canvassing the fields and woods," said Mann, "and some
of our officers have side scan sonar that we're trying to search the
water with."
While state Conservation Officers were concentrating
their efforts along the water, sheriff's deputies were chasing down
their own leads.
"Our detectives are currently interviewing
people who were at the scene, who know the individual, trying to track
down where he might have been," said Knox County Sheriff Mike Morris.
Right
now authorities say they do not have any reason to believe foul play is
involved in Hamilton's disappearance, but they are continuing to look
into the circumstances surrounding his evening before his truck wound up
in the water.
Officers say they intend to continue the search effort Tuesday.

Re: CLINTON HAMILTON - 19 yo - Oaktown/ Terra Haute IN
Authorities in southern Indiana bring in more eyes and feet to try and find a missing teen.
Clinton Hamilton, 19, of Bicknell vanished without a trace last month after a ride with friends ended with his vehicle stuck in high water in northern Knox County.
Searchers covered miles of ground hoping to find more clues into the young man's disappearance.
About 50 Vincennes University Law Enforcement students signed up to take part in a search of a rural area along the Wabash River in northern Knox County.
Most of those taking part in the search are about the same age as Clinton Hamilton who disappeared here in December.
Authorities say the work on this day is a continuation of an effort to try and determine what happened to the young man.
"That's why, you know the Conservation Officers have not quit searching," said Knox County Sheriff Mike Morris. "Our officers have not quit interviewing. We're not going to slow down until we gain closure."
Authorities say that since Clinton Hamilton disappeared they've done a lot of searches of the area, but those were done by air and by boat.
"We were out here in boats for 5 weeks," said Indiana Conservation Officer Joe Haywood. "The water level went down and now we're on foot and that's a little different than what we have been doing."
The search for Hamilton or clues that might lead to him took the crews down through the rugged and frozen river bottom along the Wabash.
They trudged for hours across the frozen ground, covering about 5 square miles, but the search produced nothing new.
The mystery of Clinton Hamilton's disappearance still is one that has not been solved.
Police say they are planning to do some more searches of the river banks downstream in the near future in hopes of locating Hamilton.

A Wabash Valley family turns to the public in hopes of finding a missing teen.
Clinton Hamilton of Bicknell disappeared along a flooded road more than 2 months ago.
Now, after repeated searches of the area, the 19-year-old's family is
offering a reward in hopes that they can finally find him.
The search for Clinton Hamilton began more than 70 days ago.
The teen's truck was found in high water in a remote part of northern
Knox County but since then no one has seen or heard from him.
"We've searched the river side," said his Great Uncle Terry McKee.
"We've searched the field side of the levee, all the ditches, the woods
that's on the other side of the levee on the river side and there's just
nothing there."
"I go out and look and I don't find
anything," said Clinton's Grandfather Steve Martin, "and I've got to
come back and tell his grandmother that's another day I didn't find
him."
Authorities, family members, friends and volunteers have spent hundreds of hours searching the area.
Deputies from several area departments are even making plans to go over the area again.
Even though Clinton Hamilton has been missing for more than 2 months,
the search is still going on and the family is even posting a reward
hoping that someone with some kind of information will come forward.
"We'd appreciate them coming forward and telling us or telling the Knox
County Police Department just to end this and get it over with," said
McKee.
"We need to find Clinton and get closure on this," added Martin. "Right now life is not worth living without him."
One family, hoping for one lead, that can finally bring this tragic case to a close.
Currently the reward stands at $1,000.
People can make donations to the Clinton Hamilton Reward Fund at any Old National Bank.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Knox County Sheriff's Office at 812-882-7660.
The family has expressed their appreciation to everyone who has helped
with the searches and with donations to the reward fund, and to Jewett
Printing in Farmersburg that has produced the hundreds of flyers now
circulating through the area.
