MURFREESBORO — A Murfreesboro man will be arraigned on felony charges of attempted second-degree murder and attempted aggravated child abuse at a hearing later this month.
Glen A. Climer Jr. was indicted this week on the charges in relation to a Nov. 28 incident in which Climer is accused of wrapping his hands around an infant’s head and attempting to “twist as if to break the baby’s neck,” police reported.
The charges against Climer are in addition to charges of child abuse, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.
Middle Tennessee Medical Center security employees called Murfreesboro Police requesting assistance with Climer, who was found with his son in the back seat of a sport utility vehicle, according to an MPD arrest report.
When authorities requested Climer take the infant into the emergency room so doctors could look at a bruise under the infant’s left eye, he allegedly began to assault the child.
Police were able to take the infant away from Climer during a scuffle.
Climer was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center following his arrest.

Glenn Climer, Jr. was arrested in Cannon County in March.
The 45-year-old was also arrested Monday in Murfreesboro.
WOODBURY, Tenn. - A man arrested in Murfreesboro earlier this week after officers witnessed him trying to break a baby's neck with his bare hands was arrested earlier this year in Cannon County on charges of similar child abuse.
Police in Woodbury arrested Glenn Climer, Jr. on March 28 after he threatened to make a "wishbone" out of a one-year-old child, grabbing the legs of the baby and pulling them as if he were trying to pull the child in half, according to a report in the Cannon Courier.
Climer was visiting his uncle at his Bailey Court home at the time and several others were present.
The paper reported he also used the child as a shield against law enforcement trying to apprehend him.
Climer was charged with aggravated child endangerment, aggravated criminal trespassing and resisting arrest in the case.
The 45-year-old was arrested Monday afternoon at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro by officers who witnessed him put his hands around a baby's throat and twist "as if to break the baby's neck," according to a Murfreesboro police incident report.
"He was holding the child in a manner that was very threatening got the child," Spokesperson Kyle Evans of the Murfreesboro Police Department said.
Evans continued, "Officers tried to reason with him and said, 'That's fine, let's go into the ER and have the child checked out.' He basically just flipped on them and said, 'If it's going to be like that, then we're going to do it my way.'"
The 13-month-old child also had bruising under the left eye.
It was not immediately clear if the child involved in the March incident was the same baby involved in Monday's incident.
Climer was charged with child abuse, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer on Monday. He remained behind bars in the Rutherford County jail as of 4 p.m. Wednesday

MURFREESBORO — A local father has been found guilty
of attempted voluntary manslaughter of his 1-year-old son, along with
other charges related to a November incident outside a local hospital.Glenn
"Bubba" Climer, Jr. faced a charge of attempted second-degree murder
for twisting his son's head in a threatening manner when confronted by
police outside Middle Tennessee Medical Center's emergency room Nov. 28.
Authorities confronted Climer because the child had a bruise around his left eye.
Climer and his attorneys denied he ever hurt or intended to hurt the child.
He did not testify at his own trial.
Jurors found him guilty Thursday of the attempted manslaughter charge, along
with charges of attempted aggravated child abuse, child abuse, simple
assault and resisting arrest, following a three-day trial in front of
Rutherford County Judge David Bragg.
Assistant District Attorney Laurel Hemenway, Murfreesboro Police Detective Tommy
Roberts and Nancy Nelson, a forensic investigator for the district
attorney’s office, prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of
Tennessee. They all said they were pleased with the verdict at the
conclusion of the trial.
"I am very pleased with the verdict," said Prosecutor Laurel Hemenway,
adding that jurors may have struggled with the definition of attempted
second-degree murder when deciding the case. She also thanked Roberts
and Nelson for their work on the case. "They put a lot of hard work into ,this."
Climer now
faces between 8 to 20 years in prison depending on whether he is
sentenced concurrently or consecutively by a judge at a sentencing
hearing tentatively scheduled for June 22.
According
to Hemenway, prosecutors will be able to use a previous case in which
Woodbury authorities accused Climer of trying to "pull his other child
apart" during a confrontation with authorities there. Mentions of the
previous case at his criminal trial were disallowed by Bragg because of
the possible influence it may have had on the jury in its deliberations
regarding the current charges.
During
closing arguments in the case, Climer's defense attorney, Assistant
Public Defender Rusty Perkins, argued that it would be ridiculous to
believe Climer would take his child to the emergency room and then
attempt to kill it in front of police and MTMC security.
Climer
went to the hospital with his child after his mother had to be taken
there in reference to chest pains. Climer's mother had earlier witnessed
an argument between Climer and the mother of his child over the child's
paternity, according to previous testimony.
Hemenway
argued that it was in a fit of rage over that argument with the child's
mother that Climer decided to harm the child to get back at her. She
had earlier fled their home during the argument.
