LOWE Twin boys - Newborn (9/2011)/ Accused: Mother-Lindsey Lowe - Madison TN
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - Lindsey Lowe, a 25-year-old mother charged with
murder, has told police she hid her pregnancy, and gave birth to twin
sons at her family's home. Then she killed the infants by smothering
their cries so her parents wouldn't hear them. Police
in the Nashville suburb of Hendersonville arrested Lowe on Wednesday
after her father discovered one baby's body in a laundry basket.
According
to a police affidavit, the young mother said she didn't tell her family
she was pregnant, but believes she got pregnant in January and never
visited a doctor. Police said on Thursday they were trying to identify
the father of the twins.
Lowe said she went into labor
Monday evening while on the toilet at her parents' home, according to
police. She said the first baby fell into the toilet and began to cry.
Police
wrote in the affidavit, "Lowe stated that she put her hand over the
child's mouth and she stated that she kept it there until the child was
dead which was a couple minutes."
Lowe said she never checked the sex of the child.
A
few minutes later, according to the affidavit, she gave birth to a
second child, who also fell in the toilet. She again put her hand over
the baby's mouth and held it there until the baby died, which she said
took less time than the first child. She allegedly put both babies in
the laundry basket and covered them up with blankets.
Police said both boys appeared to be full term and weighed about 5 to 6 pounds.
Lowe
was charged with first-degree murder and remained in jail Thursday with
no bond. Police said she is undergoing a medical evaluation.

25 years old? Goodness, I've heard of immature teens doing this but 25 years old is a woman! How could she do this? Why not get an abortion when you find out you are pregnant or give them up for adoption?
Another case where they need to sterilize a subhuman woman.

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Bond was set at $250,000
Monday for a Tennessee woman who police say admitted smothering her
newborn twins to death.
Lindsey Lowe, 25, of Hendersonville is charged with two counts of
first-degree murder for the deaths of her children following their Sept.
12 birth at the home she shares with her parents.
The Hendersonville Star News reported friends and family members
spoke her behalf during an hourlong bail hearing in a Sumner County
court.
"She's as good as it gets," Mark Lowe, who found one of the bodies in
a laundry basket two days later, said of his daughter. "She's a good
girl -- I love her very much."
A woman who said she was a cousin of the defendant told the court
Lindsey Lowe is "kind, loving and has a beautiful smile and can always
light up a room."
Hendersonville police Detective Steve Malach testified he saw that
smile when he went to the dentist's office where she works to take her
in for questioning.
"When I first saw her, she was smiling -- she greeted me -- she acted very level-headed, very normal," Malach said.
The investigator said when he started interviewing her he was only
aware of one child's body being found but she told him of the second
child.
A police affidavit states she said she smothered the infants with her hands to keep her parents from hearing their cries.
"We have two children that are dead at the hands of their mother,"
Sumner County Assistant District Attorney Ron Blanton said. "This is a
horrendous crime. The fact is she hid this pregnancy, she smothered her
children ….. The overwhelming issue in this case is probability of
conviction, and at this juncture, the state feels that the probability
of conviction and the nature of the crimes, set forth in the statute, is
so overwhelming, there should be no bond issued in this case."
Lowe, who is return to court for a preliminary hearing Sept. 28, had yet to be released, the newspaper said.

Police: Father of smothered TN twins not fiance
11:00 PM, Oct. 24, 2011
Lindsey Lowe, 25, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Sumner County General Sessions Judge James Hunter sent the case to the grand jury after hearing testimony.
During the hearing, Lowe sobbed audibly as Hendersonville Police Det. Steve Malach described how she had told him of the affair that occurred in December and early January.
He said Lowe first said the father was her fiance, Jonathan Brooks, but that she had not told him, or anybody, of the pregnancy.
"I asked if it was possible anybody else was the father, and she told he she had cheated on her fiance with another guy, Jeremy Smith," Malach said.
Lowe later told Malach she had not told her fiance of the pregnancy so as not to disappoint him and because she didn't want to add to the stress of a family member's illness.
Malach said paternity test results showed it was more than 99.9 percent likely that Smith was the father of the boys.
Lowe's attorney, John Pellegrin, said after the hearing that it was the first time he and his client had heard the results of the paternity test. He said it is his understanding that Lowe, who is free on bond, remains engaged to Brooks. Brooks attended the hearing.
Police have said that Lowe told them she covered the mouths of the infants with her hand after giving birth on Sept. 12 so that her parents, whom she lived with, would not hear their cries. Her father called police two days later after discovering one of the two babies in a laundry basket in his daughter's bedroom.
After the hearing, Pellegrin told reporters, "I feel strongly that this is a mental health issue."
He said he believes the biological changes during pregnancy may have caused the onset of a mental disease in Lowe. And he said many other Western countries treat neonaticide by the mother as a mental disease.
Malach described details of his investigation. That included Lowe attending a wedding in Kentucky the weekend before giving to birth on a Monday that seemed meant to portray the woman as unfeeling.
He said Lowe returned to work two days after giving birth and sent her father a joking text message. Malach found Lowe at work and began to talk to her in an empty room.
"I said, 'I guess you know why I'm here,' and she was laughing and said, 'No. I have no idea,"' Malach testified.
He said she continued to chat with him for the half-hour ride to the police station.
"She told me she was a college graduate and she was into interior design,' he said. She even talked about plans to start a business.
Her attorney, Pellegrin, did not call any witnesses.
District Attorney General Ray Whitley said after the hearing that his office had informed Smith of the paternity test results earlier in the day.
"He took it like a man," Whitely said, explaining that Smith had known of the possibility and did not have an emotional reaction when he found out. He said the affair would be part of the proof they would present at trial as a possible motive for the killing.
Whitley said Smith lives in Kentucky and that he and Lowe know each other "through a family connection."
During the hearing, prosecutors asked to have Lowe's bond revoked because she had tested positive for a benzodiazepine drug, such as Valium or lithium. The two sides agreed to meet next week for a bond hearing.
However, Pellegrin said afterward that he doubts the hearing will be necessary as he expects to be able to show prosecutors that Lowe is not taking drugs for which she does not have a prescription.

Re: LOWE Twin boys - Newborn (9/2011)/ Accused: Mother-Lindsey Lowe - Madison TN
Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against a Tennessee
woman accused of smothering her newborn infants, officials said
Thursday.
A Sumner County grand jury indicted Lindsey Brooke Lowe on two counts
each of first-degree felony murder, first-degree premeditated murder
and aggravated child abuse, District Attorney Ray Whitley said.
"We reserve the death penalty for the worst of the worst," Whitley
told CNN, citing a suspected mass murderer or an offender with a violent
past as examples.
The mother has no criminal record and the crimes met only one of 16
aggravating factors that would support a death penalty case, the
prosecutor said.
Lowe, 25, secretly gave birth to twin boys on September 12 in a
bathroom in the Hendersonville home she shares with her parents, and
then smothered the infants and hid their bodies in a bedroom laundry
basket, police said.
According to a police affidavit, Lowe confessed, telling police she
didn't look at either of the babies as she "placed her hand" over each
child's mouth to stop them from crying.
She told authorities that she knew she was pregnant "almost the whole
time" but that no one else -- including her family -- was aware,
according to the affidavit.
Both children were males and full term, weighing about 5 to 6 pounds, the affidavit said.
Her attorney, John Pellegrin, said in September that his client was "extremely distraught" both times he met with her in jail.
"This is an inexplicable situation and extremely sad for everyone involved," Pellegrin told HLN's Jane Velez-Mitchell.
A message CNN left for Pellegrin on Thursday seeking comment was not immediately returned.
Lowe will be formally arraigned November 18. If convicted, she would
face potential consecutive life sentences on the murder charges, Whitley
said.
She remains free on $250,000 bond, he said.

Its actualy very easy to hide a pregancy. You say How did she hide it? Clothing. Pretending to be fat. People take for granted these exscuses. And once again a child wont ruin your life if your 25. Just drop it off at a hospital. Adoption is a wounderful alternative to murdering your child.. children. Or even if you cant take care of it. Being embarrased to take the child in is no exscuse. Abortion or Adoption. No Murder.

Lindsey Lowe is accused of killing her newborn twins after giving birth
in a bathroom at her parents' home.
About
70 people gathered at City Road Chapel United Methodist Church on
Thursday to hug, cry and offer one another words of comfort about a week
after a woman they know and love was arrested on charges of killing her newborn twins.
“God
will help her and her family through this,” said Laurie Evans, a former
music director at the church, who joined others in a candlelight vigil
for the family of Lindsey Lowe.
Lowe, 25, is charged with
first-degree murder in the death of her two infant sons. The babies were
born a little over a week ago in the bathroom of the home she shared
with her parents in Hendersonville.
Police say Lowe put her hands
over the babies’ mouths to silence their cries because she did not want
her parents to know she was pregnant. She then hid the dead infants in a
laundry basket. Police later arrested Lowe after her father discovered
one of the bodies and called police. Investigators found the second body
in the same basket.
Thursday’s service at the Madison church included Scripture readings, prayers and songs.
Lowe has been released on a $250,000 bond from the Sumner County Jail. She and her parents did not attend the vigil.
Evans
and her twin sister, Lisa Harper, wiped tears from their eyes after
kneeling at an altar piled with flowers, gifts and notes of
encouragement for the family.
“We love the Lowe family and believe in Lindsey,” Evans said. “She's a precious girl.”
As
the crowd sang “Amazing Grace,” church member Zach Johnson openly wept.
“Those are two little angels,” he said. “Two little angels.”
Ron
Lowery, senior pastor at the church, said the Lowe family has been
attending the Madison congregation for three generations. Lowe was
baptized and confirmed there. She was also a member of the youth group
and grew up in the church.
He said he speaks to the family regularly.
“They
are in tremendous pain right now,” he said. “Things come along in life
that you just don’t understand ... We have a God and we cannot give up
our trust in him. Faith can help us through this time of tragedy.”
Lowery
said the Thursday night service at City Road Chapel was the only one
planned for the Lowe family there. When asked about funeral arrangements
for the twin boys, he said he didn’t know any of the details. The
family, he said, did not wish to pass along any statements.
The
majority of the church members at the event declined to comment about
Lowe or her family, saying it was their pastor’s place to handle any
questions.
Katrina Waltenvaugh, 60, of Madison, said she did not
know the family or any of the church members. She said she came to the
vigil because she was trying to follow Jesus’ example and show love and
compassion.
“I know that no matter what my child did, I could not
cease to love my child,” said Waltenvaugh, who has three adult children
and four grandchildren. “I hope this family will stay safe in the arms
of Jesus and look to him for comfort.
“We will all be judged by
the way we judge others. It’s not our place to judge this girl or this
family. They need support right now.”

Police: Mom killed newborn twins, hid them in laundry basket
Updated: Sep 15, 2011 4:13 PM CDT
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – A 25-year-old Hendersonville woman is behind bars in Sumner
County on murder charges after she admitted to killing her infant twins,
minutes after they were born.
According to a Hendersonville Police Department affidavit,
Lindsey Lowe gave birth to her first son sometime between 9:30 p.m. and
10 p.m. Monday night on a toilet in a bathroom of her parents' Park
Circle home.
Lowe told detectives the baby was crying and she did not want her parents, who were unaware she was pregnant, to hear.
Lowe reported she placed her bare hand over the child's mouth and held it there until the baby fell silent and died.
A few minutes later, Lowe told authorities she gave birth to a second child in a similar manner.
Again, Lowe said the baby was crying so she put
her hand over the baby's mouth and kept it there for several minutes
until the child died.
According to the affidavit, Lowe then placed the babies' bodies in a laundry
basket in her bedroom and covered them with a blanket to prevent them
from being discovered.
Two days later, around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Lowe's
father called police to report he'd discovered a newborn baby dead in a
basket in his daughter's room.
Officers located Lowe at a local dentist office,
her place of employment, and took her into custody. She admitted to
killing the babies during questioning.
Lowe told authorities she believes she became
pregnant during the early part of January. Both babies were born full
term, each weighing between five and six pounds.
Lowe told police she did not tell anyone she was pregnant, including her parents.
In addition, she reported she did not see a doctor once during the term of her pregnancy, according to the affidavit.
Neighbors told Nashville's News 2 Lowe never mentioned that she was pregnant but at least one thought she might be.
"I didn't really know but it was kind of obvious
because I've got a five-month-old so I remember what I looked like when I
was pregnant," neighbor Ashley Smith said. "It showed to me, but I
wasn't going to go up and ask her, ‘how far along are you?' or anything
like that."
Hendersonville police Lt. Scott Ryan told
Nashville's News 2 the crime is one he has never encountered in his 17
years on the force.
When asked about Lowe's demeanor, he replied, "She was very sad the last time I say her, very, very sad."
Lowe attended Western Kentucky University where
she studied interior design and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi
sorority. She graduated in 2008.
She is a 2004 graduate of Goodpasture Christian School in Madison. She has more than 700 friends on her Facebook page, and lists the Bible as one of her favorite books.
Lowe is charged with two counts of first degree
murder. She was booked into the Sumner County jail where she is being
held without bond.
She has no other children and no prior arrest record.
Detectives did not immediately release the identity of the victims' father.
Police said there is no evidence to suggest anyone but Lowe was involved in the newborns' deaths.
Lowe is scheduled to appear in court Monday
morning for a bond hearing. A preliminary hearing has been set for
September 28 at 9 a.m.

Trial Date Set For Woman Accused Of Killing Twins

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – The trial date of the Hendersonville woman accused of killing her newborn twins has been set for March 11, 2013.
Lindsey Lowe was in Sumner County court on Thursday morning.
If necessary, the judge said the trial will continue into the week of March 18, 2013.
The judge said lawyers must have all reports finished by July 15. The deadline for discovery will be September 13.
Lindsey Lowe is charged with two counts of murder. The 25-year-old has been accused of killing both of her newborn twin boys after they were born in a toilet in her parents' home on September 12, 2011. Her father discovered one of the babies in a laundry basket two days later and called 911.
Lowe allegedly admitted to smothering the infants so her parents would not hear them cry.
In a preliminary hearing, a detective testified that the father of the newborn twins was not Lowe's fiance, but rather a man she had an affair with in December 2010 and January 2011.
Lowe has pleaded not guilty in the murders. The district attorney announced in November that they would not seek the death penalty.
Each count of murder carries the possibility of a life sentence.
Lowe has been free on bond since shortly after her arrest.

Attorneys for Lindsey Lowe request change of venue

GALLATIN, Tenn. - The Hendersonville woman charged with killing her newborn twins in September of 2011 appeared in a Sumner County courtroom Thursday as her attorneys argued for a change of venue.
Lindsey Lowe sat in between her lawyers John Pellegrin and James Ramsey during the morning hearing.
The two told Judge Dee David Gay that there had been "undue excitement" surrounding the Lowe case, principally from comments posted following stories on various media Web sites about the newborn deaths.
Ramsey told the judge that in a survey commissioned for the defense team, "63% of those asked if they had an opinion already had an opinion."
District Attorney Ray Whitley told the judge that there have been a number of Sumner County cases over the years with "intense" media coverage, but "we had no trouble in selecting a jury."
"We only have to get 14 jurors out of a population of 160,000 here in Sumner County and I think we can do that," the DA told Nashville's News 2 after the hearing.
Judge Gay decided to take the issue under advisement until when jury selection begins for the scheduled March 2013 trial.
"Hopefully, when we run through some of these issues, we'll have plenty of jurors to pull from," Gay said.
He cautioned though that, "If and when we run through this panel [of jurors] and we have issues, I will consider what you all have asked," Judge Gay said pointing at Lowe's attorneys.
On December 10, the judge said he consider a motion filed this week by Lowe's attorneys asking for an appeal of his previous ruling earlier this month that an alleged confession made to police by the young mother could be used as evidence
Lowe faces two counts of felony first degree murder, two counts of pre-meditated first degree murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse.
She is currently out of jail on bond and staying with family.

Judge Again Rules Lindsey Lowe's Confession Admissible
Posted: Dec 10, 2012 2:08 PM CST
Updated: Dec 11, 2012 7:10 AM CST
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – A judge has once again ruled that Lindsey Lowe's confession will be allowed at her upcoming trial.
On Monday, Judge Dee Gay ruled the defense did not demonstrate enough evidence to be granted an appeal. In November, he ruled Lindsey Lowe's detailed confession is admissible.
Lowe allegedly made a statement to police following her arrest in September 2011 that implicated herself in the deaths of her newborn twins.
Her attorneys had previously asked a judge to throw out the confession, claiming she had not been properly mirandized, but it had been denied.
"I'm glad that the judge ruled the way it did. I'm not surprised that he did, but you never know how a hearing is going to come out in court," said Sumner Co. District Attorney General Ray Whitley.
Lowe's attorneys, who declined to comment after Monday's hearing, argued without her statement to police that there was no evidence a crime was committed. Under that logic, the attorney said prosecuting a case where no crime was committed would waste the court's time and money.
In late November, the judge said he would make his decision on a change of venue request when jury selection begins. Her attorneys have asked for the trial to be moved out of Middle Tennessee because they believe Lowe would not receive a fair trial in the county because of all the media attention the case has received.
In 2011, police testified that Lowe not only admitted to killing her newborn twins, but she explained how she did it. According to an affidavit, Lowe hid her pregnancy from her family and may have never visited a doctor.
In the confession, police said Lowe smothered the infants after they were born in a toilet in her parents' home on September 12, 2011. When the babies began to cry, police testified that Lowe said she put her hands over their mouth and kept it there until they died.
Her father discovered one of the babies in a laundry basket two days later and called 911.
In a preliminary hearing in 2011, a detective testified that the father of the newborn twins was not Lowe's fiance, but rather a man she had an affair with in December 2010 and January 2011.
Lowe was released on bond shortly after her arrest last year. Her trial date is tentatively scheduled for March 11, 2013.
Lowe has pleaded not guilty in the murders. The district attorney announced in November that they would not seek the death penalty.
Each count of murder carries the possibility of a life sentence.

Let's get on with the trial and make this uterus pay for murdering her babies. She had lots of legal options and it would have been no problem, everyone wants brand new babies. She wanted to murder them, it's time to pay the price for her evil deed.

Judge denies key defense motion in Lindsey Lowe case

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - A Sumner County judge Tuesday denied a key defense motion in the case of a young woman charged with killing her newborns.
Attorneys for Lindsey Lowe wanted a statement from their client that was made to police excluded from her upcoming trial starting March 11.
Judge Dee David Gay ruled that Lowe did not have to be read her Miranda rights while being initially questioned by police for a few hours prior to her arrest in September 2011.
Prior to the decision on the motion, Lowe's lawyers argued to exclude hundreds of cell phone text messages and crime scene photos in the upcoming trial as well.
Prosecutors said those cell phone items between Lowe and the Jeremy Smith, the court-named father of the newborns, are relevant.
They argued the cell-phone messages will counter claims of a potential "forced sexual activity" as part of Lowe's defense.
Judge Gay is expected to make a decision on the defense motions next Tuesday at 1 p.m.
On Wednesday, Judge Gay begins sifting through the first 200 of 400-potential jurors from which the 12-person Lowe jury will be pulled, as well as other Sumner County Criminal Court cases for the month of March.

NewsChannel 5 Obtains Copy Of Lindsey Lowe's Entire Confession

GALLATIN, Tenn. – How and why would a mother kill her own newborn twins? In this exclusive report we hear from Lindsey Lowe in her own words.
Police said Lowe confessed on videotape to smothering her twin newborns in the bathroom of her family's Hendersonville home just moments after they were born.
She pleaded not guilty, but police said she confessed. NewsChannel 5 reporter Nick Beres obtained an exclusive copy of Lowe's entire statement.
It has been a crucial piece of the prosecution's case, and it's what Lowes' attorneys have tried, unsuccessfully, in recent days to get excluded from her murder trial.
The confession revealed details that officials said were intimate and chilling.
Police questioned Lowe after the discovery of the dead infants:
Detective: We're going to talk freely, all right? And we're going to try to make heads or tails of what's going on in a bad situation. How long did you know you were pregnant?
Lowe: Probably almost the whole time.
Detective: Okay. Did you go to a doctor at all?
Lowe: No.
Detectives asked Lowe why she didn't tell her fiancé Jonathan Brooks about the pregnancy. She admitted to cheating on him with another man who turned out to be the father.
Lowe: I really didn't tell anybody. My family is very conservative Christian people and I was just very -- I don't know. I just didn't want to disappoint anybody.
The detective asked about how she gave birth in a bathroom at home.
Lowe: I didn't know what to do. I was -- I guess I went into shock. I was scared.
Detective: I mean, you had to have -- the baby had to come out. How did that happen?
Lowe: Just came out.
Detective: Where did it land?
Lowe: In the toilet. I just didn't know what to do.
Detective: So you wrapped them in a towel and you did what?
Lowe: I just put them in that basket. I didn't know what to do.
Detective: What was your plan?
Lowe: I don't know. I don't know.
The detective then pressed Lowe on what she did to the babies.
Lowe: I guess... I don't want to call it smother. I was just trying to like keep them quiet.
Detective: How were you doing that?
Lowe: Just put my hand down there over the mouth.
Detective: I know. I know. It's okay. You knew it couldn't breathe, right?
Lowe: Nods head.
Detective: Essentially you know you killed the baby.
Lowe: Nods head.
Detective: You didn't want to.
Lowe: Nods head.
Detective: But you did?
Lowe: Yeah.
Detective: They were clearly alive and then you clearly killed them. Is that correct?
Lowe: Yes sir.
The prosecution has said they will argue Lowe's statement confirms she committed first degree murder. Legal analysts said they expect the defense may argue Lowe panicked and didn't mean to kill the infants.

Lindsey Lowe Appears In Court Ahead Of Murder Trial
Posted: Mar 07, 2013 6:51 PM CST

by Adam Ghassemi
GALLATIN, Tenn. – Lindsey Lowe appeared in court Thursday for one of the final pre-trial motion hearings before her murder trial officially begins. Her attorneys filed the motion to keep text messages between her and her babies' father, Jeremy Smith, out of case evidence.
Prosecutors said jurors must read them because they prove premeditated murder.
"By killing the babies it would conceal the affair that she had between her and Jeremy Smith while she is engaged to another individual," said Sumner Co. Assistant District Attorney General Ron Blanton in court.
TBI Computer Forensics Examiner James Garnett testified to recovering more than 16,000 texts and more than 100,000 images and videos from Lowe's iPhone and Smith's two cell phones from around the time they conceived the twins.
Judge Dee Gay ruled those texts are admissible.
"These texts are relevant. These texts do go to the issue of premeditation," Gay said.
"We feel like that's important to premeditation, which is one of the elements of first degree murder we have to prove. It establishes the nature of the relationship between Jeremy Smith and Lindsey Lowe," said Sumner County District Attorney General Ray Whitley. "It'll come out in trial why that is important."
Now Lowe's defense team must prepare for trial.
They said her demeanor really hasn't changed since she admitted to smothering her two infant sons just after giving birth in her parents Hendersonville home in September 2011. She faces two counts of first degree murder, one for each baby.
"She's been despondent and depressed and so forth and has been ever since I met her," said defense attorney John Pellegrin.
Lowe could also see her web search and site history from the days before and just after her sons were killed come up during rebuttal and cross examination.
Her attorneys were also seeking a change of venue, but requested the jury not be sequestered.
"If they're going to get access to information whether they're sequestered or not they're probably going to get that information anyway. We just trust the jury will do as instructed and consider only what comes from the witness stand," Pellegrin went on to say.
One hundred and eighty people comprise the jury pool. The prosecution and defense must agree on twelve jurors and three alternates, which both sides believe they can do.
If not, a jury would have to be brought in from somewhere else or the most unlikely option would be moving the entire trial to a new venue.
NewsChannel 5 will begin coverage of the Lindsey Lowe trial on Monday. We will carry gavel-to-gavel coverage once jury selection is complete across all platforms of the NewsChannel 5 Network, including NewsChannel 5 Plus, NewsChannel5.com and our mobile app.

This murderer was no scared kid. She is a grown woman. She knew she could have put those precious babies up for adoption. Many, many people would be so excited and happy to be given a precious baby to love and raise.

Jury Finds Mother Guilty in Babies' Deaths
Tuesday, March 19 2013, 09:01 PM CDT
GALLATIN, Tenn. - It took jurors only 2 hours to find Lindsey Lowe guilty of all counts.
Lowe will spend at least 51 years for two sets of 1st degree murder and aggravated child abuse convictions.
The Hendersonville woman was emotional throughout the 5 day trial but showed no emotions when the convictions were ready.
"I love you all," said Lowe to her family as deputies lead her away.
District Attorney Ray Whitley said the recorded confession Lowe made to police 2 days after the Sept. 12, 2011 birth was the key to the case.
Whitley argued Lowe smothered her two sons shortly after giving birth on the toilet because she didn't want people to know her fiancee Jonathan Brooks wasn't the father.
DNA tests confirmed a man Lowe had an affair with, Jeremy Smith, was the father.
"If we don't stand up for our little infants we're really in bad shape as a society," said Whitley.
Jurors had the option of convicting Lowe on lesser counts and to prove 1st degree murder the state had to prove premeditation.
For that Whitley told jurors about pregnancy related internet searches they found on Lowe's phone.
"Things to make you go into labor, 6 days before these babies were born," said Whitley in his closing arguments.
Defense attorneys told jurors those Google searches don't mean anything.
"Just because searches are made on her phone doesn't mean she's the one who made them," said John Pellegrin.
Pellegrin asked jurors to instead focus on photos of Lowe days before the delivery that he said show she didn't look pregnant.
Lowe's defense argued the defendant suffered from a mental condition that physically altered how she carried the babies and prevented her from accepting the pregnancy.
"The babies as we've heard were not in a fetal position. That's why she didn't look pregnant. That's why she didn't walk like she was pregnant," said Pellegrin.
Jurors didn't buy it and instead sent Lowe to prison at least until she's in her late 70s.

Jury convicts Tenn. mother in newborn twins' deaths
GALLATIN, Tenn. A jury found a 26-year-old Tennessee woman guilty of murder Tuesday in the 2011 smothering deaths of newborn twins found in her laundry basket.
The jury of seven men and five women convicted Lindsey Lowe, of suburban Nashville, of felony murder, premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse. She was immediately sentenced to life in prison by the judge.
Lowe, who was often emotional at trial, didn't break down as the sentence was pronounced. She was dry-eyed when she turned to sobbing family members and friends in the courtroom before being taken into custody.
The defendant, who toted a Bible throughout much of the seven-day trial, told them softly, "I'm OK. I love you all. He's with me," as she pointed toward the sky.
At trial, jurors saw a video of Lowe telling police she had given birth alone on Sept. 12, 2011, in the bathroom of her parents' home on a quiet cul-de-sac in an upper-middle-class neighborhood.
The bodies weren't found until two days later. A family member discovered one baby dead in a laundry basket at the home in Hendersonville, 20 miles northeast of Nashville. When police arrived to investigate, officers found the second body under a bloody sheet in the same basket.
Lowe was engaged at the time but became pregnant during an affair with another man, jurors were told. She hid the pregnancy from her family and friends, and the defense and prosecution offered competing arguments as to why.
Hendersonville Police Detective Steve Malach testified that Lowe told him during an interrogation that she had kept her pregnancy secret so as not to disappoint her fiance or add to the stress of a family member's illness. In a video of the interrogation, Lowe said she "maybe" smothered the babies.
"I was just trying to keep them quiet," she said on the video.
Two police officers who found the babies in Lowe's laundry basket were barely able to contain their emotions as they recalled the events on the witness stand.
Officer Jeremy Fentress described pulling back a bloody towel. He then had to stop speaking for a few seconds before continuing: "After I pulled the bloody towel back, I saw a deceased infant."
Fentress said he touched the baby with two fingers and found the infant was cold and not breathing.
The second was found by Sgt. James Garrett, who fought back tears as he described how the two babies were still attached by their umbilical cords to a single placenta.
Prosecutors also introduced graphic autopsy photographs of the infants.
Det. Malach testified that police searched the home thoroughly but found no evidence that Lowe had made any plans for the birth.
The defense argued that Lowe's confession was not reliable because she was "divorced from reality" at the time.
Psychiatrist Dr. William Kenner testified for the defense that Lowe had blocked out her pregnancy, then suffered shock and delirium from blood loss after she gave birth.
"Lindsey Lowe was pregnant, but she refused to accept it, her mind refused to accept it," defense attorney John Pellegrin had told the jury.
Prosecutor Ray Whitley countered that by presenting evidence of Internet searches on Lowe's iPhone for information on inducing labor.
Family, friends and church members, who have rallied to support Lowe, were sobbing after the verdict was read by Judge Dee David Gay.
The two murder convictions both carry a life sentence, which in Tennessee means Lowe will serve a mandatory 51 years in prison. Judge Dee Gay will rule on whether the two sentences will be served concurrently or consecutively at an April hearing. Gee will also determine whether Lowe must serve additional time for the aggravated child abuse conviction.
Defense attorney Pellegrin declined to comment after the verdict.
District Attorney General Ray Whitley sad it was a "sad situation for a young lady to get a life sentence, but she's the one who did it."
Lowe's father, Mark, and sister, Lacey, testified on her behalf during the trial, both saying no one knew she was pregnant. The sister said they both had been in a wedding just days before the birth and Lindsey Lowe didn't appear pregnant when she undressed in front of other women in the wedding party.
The defendant didn't testify. "I just don't feel like I can emotionally handle it," she told the judge Monday, while fighting back tears.

Mom found guilty of smothering newborn twins

NEED TO KNOW
A
Tennessee mother was found guilty Tuesday in the 2011 smothering deaths
of her newborn twins at her parents’ Hendersonville home.
Lindsey
Lowe, now 26, was convicted of two counts each of felony first-degree
murder, felony premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse.
A
judge sentenced Lowe to life in prison for the counts of first-degree
murder. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 26 for the
aggravated child abuse convictions.
Authorities were called to
investigate the scene on September 14, 2011 after Lowe’s father reported
he had discovered a newborn baby, dead, covered with a blanket, in a
laundry basket in his daughter’s bedroom, according to an arrest
affidavit. The body of a second baby was later found in the same basket.
Lowe,
then 25, was brought in for questioning and she confessed to killing
both of her babies, police said in the affidavit. Lowe allegedly stated
to authorities that she gave birth while on a toilet bowl at her
parents’ home two days before the bodies were found.
Lowe
admitted to police that she smothered the twins so that her parents
wouldn’t hear their cries, the affidavit states. After the children were
dead, Lowe said she placed both of her babies in a laundry basket in
her room and covered them with blankets to prevent their discovery,
according to the affidavit.
Earlier in the police interview, Lowe
told officers she did not tell anyone she was pregnant and had not
visited a doctor, the affidavit states.
At trial, Lowe’s
attorneys claimed she was in denial about being pregnant. A psychiatrist
testified for the defense that Lowe was delusional on the day she gave
birth, WTVF-TV reported.
Lowe’s attorneys also argued that her taped police confession was not credible because she is mentally ill, WTVF-TV reported.
Prosecutors alleged Lowe killed her babies to conceal an affair after she cheated on her fiancé.
John
Pellegrin and James Ramsey, Lowe’s defense attorneys, could not be
reached for a comment Wednesday because they were in court.
After
the guilty verdict was read Tuesday, Lowe waved to family members as
she was taken into custody and said, "I'm ok, I love you all,” WTVF-TV reported.
