SHELBY, N.C. —


A Shelby woman is facing child abuse charges after a toddler turned up with bruises all over her body, police said.

Police said Ashley Diaz-Serpas caused the bruises to her 2-year-old’s face, back and arms.

The Shelby Star reported Serpas took the child to the hospital last month claiming she fell out of a kitchen chair and at a park.

The woman also has three other children.

They were all placed in Department of Social Services custody.
