Casey Anthony was back in the headlines today when her attorneys filed documents saying that Zenaida Gonzalez’s defamation suit has no merit.

WESH-Channel 2 called attention to Cindy Anthony’s statement of support her for daughter.

WESH’s Michele Meredith highlighted that Anthony’s attorneys said their client ”never identified the plaintiff as her made-up Zanny the nanny” and ”the plaintiff voluntarily injected herself into the public eye doing TV interviews.”

Matt Morgan, an attorney for Gonzalez, countered that police sought out his client and she didn’t seek publicity.

Meredith also highlighted the Anthony attorneys’ view that the Gonzalez lawsuit has been “a fictional play set in the theater of the absurd.”

Matt Morgan told Meredith that “it is fictional play to think that this case has no merit.”

Attorney Richard Hornsby, who has supplied analysis for WESH, said, “The publicity has gotten the case this far.” Hornsby cited the high profile of John Morgan, Gonzalez’s attorney. “Is it a strong case, based solely upon the merits? No,” Hornsby said.

WFTV-Channel 9 handled the story quickly. “Zenaida Gonzalez is suing Casey for suggesting she was the fictional Zanny the nanny who Casey claimed kidnapped her daughter, Caylee,” anchor Vanessa Welch read. “Casey’s lawyers argue the description of a tall, 25-year-old Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez does not match up with the shorter, older Zenaida Gonzalez who’s suing Casey.”

A hearing on the suit is set for March 23, Meredith reported.
