"Newborn John Doe" - 4 Months - Fall River MA

Fall River police have launched a child abuse investigation after a 4-month-old boy was hospitalized with brain injuries.

Sources tell Eyewitness News the infant was rushed from a Globe Street apartment building to St. Anne's Hospital Wednesday afternoon with seizure-like symptoms.

Doctors reportedly called police after finding internal bleeding in the boy's brain and evidence of past injuries.

According to sources, officers spent the night searching for the boy's father, who has a number of warrants out for his arrest.

The infant's parents, sources say, had just been granted custody of the child, after losing it briefly to go through drug rehabilitation.

The baby was later transferred to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, and sources say he was in a coma Thursday night.

Fall River police and the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families are actively investigating the case.
