From original report on Friday 9 March 2012

The body of a baby found dead in the trunk of a car in Prince Frederick Thursday night was so badly decomposed that autopsy results might not be available until next month, authorities said.

Authorities responded to a trailer park in the 5400 block of
Hallowing Point Road shortly after 6:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the
Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. The parents of the car’s owner had
opened up the car to clean it out. They found the body in the trunk and
called police, authorities said.

It’s unclear how long the body had been in the trunk of the car. The
vehicle’s owner, a 32-year-old mother of three, had left the car at the
trailer park, where she had lived with her boyfriend and children,
according to Lt. Steve Jones, commander of the sheriff’s office criminal
investigations bureau. WJLA
reported the woman had abandoned the car before voluntarily checking
herself into a mental health facility more than a month ago. Jones said
he could neither confirm nor deny that information because of patient
confidentiality laws. It was unclear whether the woman intended to
return to the trailer park, he said.

The body had been dead long enough that it was badly decomposed when
police discovered it. That has thus far kept authorities from
determining its gender or whether it was a newborn or a fetus. It may
take until the middle of April for the medical examiner’s office to
issue a final report on the cause of death and other details,
authorities said.

Detectives have since interviewed the vehicle’s owner, authorities
said. No charges had been filed in the case as of 5 p.m. Friday.

The parents of the vehicle’s owner have filed an emergency petition to take custody of her three children, Jones said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mike Mudd at 410-535-1600, ext. 2469, police said.
