LAYLA KUPRES - 5 Months/ Accused: Father-Ryan Kupres - Zeeland (nr Grand Rapids) MI
Investigators say an Ottawa County man wanted for questioning after his five-month-old daughter was injured.
The child was taken to Zeeland Community Hospital on Friday, then
transferred to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital for treatment of broken
bones and a closed head injury. Police do not believe the injuries are
accidental.
Lt. Mark Bennett with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department says the
father, Ryan Kupres, 27, is not cooperating with detectives.
In 2008, Kupres spent one year in jail for abuse of a three-week old
child. The baby also suffered broken bones, but was able to recover.
Kupres is not under arrest, and investigators are not calling him a
suspect. Lt. Bennett says detectives want to talk to Kupres about his
daughter.

The Ottawa County Department of Human Services in Ottawa County has
filed paperwork to strip a Zeeland Township couple of their parental
rights, after their infant daughter, Layla, showed up at the emergency
room with multiple fractures and a head injury. The dad, 27-year-old
Ryan Kupres, has a previous record, having served 16 months for first
degree child abuse for a 2008 incident. He was released in August 2010,
according to state records. The court filings claim the mother was
aware of Kupres’ history, and should have done more to protect the
infant. Neither have been formally charged with child abuse in this
case, but it remains under investigation.

The asshat has only been out of the slammer for not even two years for a prior offense.
Now he shows up at the hospital with a newborn that's been abused.
Fractures (many) and a head injury.
Now, who should find himself charged in this???? Hmmm, let me think.
Wait, I am no BAU specialist but I would guess Ryan, huh?

An Ottawa County father is refusing to talk to detectives after
doctors say his baby's severe head injury and broken bones are not
accidental.
On Friday, the parents of 5-month-old Layla Kupres
took her to the hospital in Zeeland because she was vomiting, according
to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. On Saturday, she was
transferred to Devos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids - that's when
doctors called Child Protective Services (CPS) and police.
"It is
an abuse case, and we're investigating it as such," says Lt. Mark
Bennett. "There's significant injury to the child that was not
accidental."
He says the infant has a serious closed head injury and several fractures in her arms and legs.
"It's
alarming," Lt. Bennett says. "Someone caused these injuries (and) our
job, now, is the find the facts and figure out who caused (the baby's
injuries)."
According to Lt. Bennett, investigators says the
baby's mother, Jessica Jones, and several other people who were around
the baby over the past week, are cooperating fully. However, the baby's
father - 27-year-old Ryan Kupres who spent a year in prison for child
abuse in 2008 - is refusing to speak to detectives.
"(Ryan Kupres)
does have a (child abuse) conviction," explains Lt. Bennett. "That
doesn't automatically make him a suspect, ... and just because he hasn't
spoken with us yet, doesn't make him guilty (in this case)." He adds
that detectives will continue to reach out to Ryan Kupres.
FOX 17
tried contacting the the baby's parents - once at a home where Ryan
sometimes stays in Jenison, and again at the family's home in Zeeland -
but noone answered the door.
A Neighbor told FOX 17 that she would never suspect child abuse from the family and the parents seemed like nice people.
The
Sheriff's Department says no arrests have been made, and that CPS has
removed another child from the family's home, but the move was strictly
procedural.
As of 5:30 P.M. Wednesday, baby Layla is in critical condition.

I couldn't agree with you more Tom. Why wouldn't an innocent convict cooperate with LE about the death of his child? Probably cause he's hiding something.
