A military helicopter on Sunday helped look for an Arvada teenager
missing for two days. Police are now intensifying their search.
Christine Harvey was last seen Friday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.
She’s 19 years old but has the mental capacity of a 12-year-old.
Harvey was spotted at a Valero convenience store across from Lakeside
Amusement Park on Sheridan Boulevard. She lives near the 6200 block of
Wolff Street and in order to get to the convenience store she would have
had to walk more than 20 blocks over two interstate highways and a
series of railroad tracks.
Police released surveillance images of Harvey inside the convenience
store. They were taken a little over an hour after she disappeared on
Friday. Police believe Harvey is alone.
Police used the military helicopter to search areas that might have
been difficult for Harvey to walk. They also searched trails in the area
and Sloan’s Lake. A reverse 911 call went sent out Sunday morning in
the Arvada area where she disappeared. A volunteer search team is still
active.
Arvada police received two new tips about Harvey’s disappearance
Saturday night and Sunday morning. In both reports witnesses say Harvey
asked for directions to a Jefferson County library. Now police are
searching every library in the area, including Wheat Ridge, Arvada,
Denver, and Edgewater.
“The concern that we had originally, and still do, is that she’s
quite shy. So we were worried that she wouldn’t go ask for help or tell
people that she was lost,” Sgt. Michelle Moriarty with Arvada police
said.

The missing 19-year-old woman from Arvada, who police say had the
mental capacity of 12-year-old, was found safe and sound Monday evening
at a King Soopers near 80th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.
Christine Harvey disappeared on Friday evening. According to Police, Harvey met a drunk man and decided to befriend him.
Police say the man took care of Harvey and gave her shelter over the
weekend. They say the man had no idea Christine was missing. He told
investigators he doesn't watch the television or the news and that he
only watches movies.
Bill Harvey, Christine's father, praised the man on Monday.
"We're blessed she ran in to a pretty decent guy and not one of the people we were so afraid of," Harvey said.
Christine was spotted earlier in the day on Monday at Westminster High School.
Westminster High School was closed Monday for a school in-service
day. Christine asked a school employee if there was school on Monday and
the employee told her no. The school does have the encounter on
surveillance video.
The staff member asked the girl if she was "Christine," and the girl
said yes. The teacher did not know that Christine was missing. Christine
then walked away and got into a pickup truck driven by a man.
Later in the day Monday someone spotted Christine at a King Soopers in
Arvada. That woman called police, who located Christine and returned her
to her parents.
"This has such a happy ending," her father said.
The man who Harvey stayed with over the weekend is not being treated as a criminal. He will not be charged.
