Baby's body found in refrigerator
May 02 2012 05:58:47 PM CDT
HOUSTON - A baby was found dead inside a refrigerator at a southwest Houston apartment Wednesday.
Houston police said they got a suicidal call from a man in the 7100 block of Beechnut about 7:30 a.m.
Officers said the man refused to let them into his apartment when they arrived. A
neighbor saw what was going on and panicked because she knew a baby was
inside.
"I got a hold of maintenance and they ended up kicking
the door in," neighbor Evette Williams said. "Found the guy laying on
the floor and no baby."
Police said it was obvious that a child lived there.
"There were some items that were indicative that a child was living there at some point," Sgt. Ora Chandler said.
Detectives ended up finding a baby boy, about 6 months old, inside the
refrigerator. He was wrapped in a blanket and wearing clothing.
The baby's name and cause of death have not been released.
Investigators said the baby had not been seen in several days. Police said they
suspect the body was inside the refrigerator for at least a day.
Detectives said the baby's father has been hospitalized. His name has not been
released, but police said he has a criminal history.

Police: Baby found dead in fridge; Houston dad arrested

HOUSTON – The body of a 6-month-old baby was found in a refrigerator Wednesday, and the child’s father was taken into custody.
Police were called to an apartment in the 7100 block of Beechnut
around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday by the father, who said he was suicidal.
Paramedics had to kick in the door of the unit when they arrived and
found the father inside with several self-inflicted injuries, police
said.
Once HPD arrived, investigators said the father told them his son had
stopped breathing sometime Tuesday, and around 6 p.m., he’d put the
body in the fridge.
Officers recovered the baby’s body from the refrigerator and sent it
to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences for autopsy.
The father was taken to Ben Taub in police custody. Investigators said as of Wednesday afternoon, charges had not been filed.
Neighbors said the baby’s parents had recently split up, and that the father was taking care of the child alone.
Still, one neighbor said she never saw any signs of trouble in the home.
"No sense of any harm, no sense of danger to that child. A very happy
baby, a happy father, and that’s all I saw – happiness," neighbor
Martha Williams said.
The names of the father and the baby were not released.

HPD: Dad confesses to killing baby found in fridge
May 03 2012 05:53:32 PM CDT
HOUSTON - A Houston man confessed to killing his 6-month-old son before putting the baby's body in his refrigerator.
Investigators said Joseph Mouton, 57, was high when he killed his son, Joseph. They
said once he came down from the high, he wrapped the baby in a blanket
and put the boy in the freezer in his apartment in the 7100 block of
Beechnut Street.
He made a suicidal call to police on Wednesday at
8 a.m. Mouton appeared unresponsive. Sources told KPRC Local 2 that he
tried to kill himself by overdosing on pills. He admitted to killing
his child as he was being loaded onto a stretcher, officers said.
The baby's cause of death has not been released.
Mouton, a veteran, has been in trouble with the law in the past.
In 1988, he served eight years in prison after pleading guilty to
attempted murder charges. In 2004, he served time again for drugs.
Then, in the fall, around the time the baby's mother was about to give birth,
he was convicted and served 30 days behind bars for beating her up.
The baby's mother moved to Clear Lake to stay with family after breaking up
with Mouton. She told police that she didn't have any money to care
for the boy, so she left him with his dad.
Mouton's neighbors were shocked at the crime.
"He was a happy father, a loving father. There were no signs that anything was going wrong," neighbor Evette Williams said.

---Ummmm....errrr....ahhhh. WRONG!He was a happy father, a loving father.
The man is an asshat and deserves to spend the rest of his life in a cooler. These are the people, these miscreants who don't know anything but violence, that should be locked up forever. Keep these Looney Tunes locked up and stop harassing and incarcerating people for victimless crimes.

I fully agree.
She knew this man was prone to violence and a druggie yet she still left her baby with him. She needs to be arrested also.

A Houston man was charged with serious
bodily injury to a child Friday days after he confessed to killing his
6-month-old son and putting the baby's body in his refrigerator.
Investigators filed the charges against
Joseph Moulton, 57, but despite his confession, could not charge him
with murder because the medical examiner could not prove that the trauma
to the baby's head was intentional.
Moulton was still in the hospital Saturday
with internal bleeding in his stomach after he tried to overdose on
pills, officials said. Sources said Moulton is on suicide watch and says
he wants to die and is having nightmares of his son.
Moulton's bail was set at $100,000. He is set to appear in court on Monday.

That charge doesn't make sense. This was not a serious injury, it was a fatal injury.
