BARTOW -- Polk County authorities have charged a 28-year-old Tampa man with aggravated manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend's 7-week-old daughter.
Detectives say Eric Thomas Trinchet admitted to shaking Isabella Irizarry out of anger on April 29 after fighting with the infant's mother, Tianna Irizarry, whom he has been dating for nine months.
Isabella was pronounced dead Monday at Tampa General Hospital after spending more than a week in two hospitals.
It's the third arrest in 1 1/2 months in Polk County of a man accused in the death of a baby. The two previous cases involved the biological fathers of the deceased children.
Six weeks ago, Christopher Scott Ryon, 27, of Winter Haven was charged in the death of his 3-month-daughter after he allegedly hit her because she was keeping himfrom a nap. And early last month, Jacob David Hartley, 20, of Lakeland was arrested after allegedly shaking his 3-week old son, Colton Hartley, while trying to play his Xbox.
Authorities say Trinchet, who has an "at-large Tampa" address and Tianna Irizarry, who lives on the 5300 block of Starhill Place in Tampa, took Isabella to Lakeled on the weekend beginning April 27 to visit Trinchet's aunt.
According to the arrest report, Trinchet admitted to stealing prescription pills from the aunt, who had gone to the beach, and giving some to Trianna.
The two got "extremely high" and at some point, got into a verbal and physical fight, Trinchet told authorities.
Detectives say Trinchet admitted that when Isabella began to cry, he entered the bedroom, removed her from a "pack and play" crib and shook her. He then placed her back in the crib and slept for about two days.
Detectives got involved on May 1 after receiving a call from Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where Isabella was hospitalized with head trauma, abrasions under her left foot and both ears and puncture marks on her left thigh. Because of the severity of her injuries, Isabella was transferred to Tampa General Hospital on May 2.
Authorities say Trinchet said he didn't know how badly Isabella was injured until May 1.
He then turned himself in, saying he could no longer handle the guilt.
