MARSIAH COPELAND - 10 Months/ Accused: Mother-Celia Copeland et al - Atlanta GA

On June 30, Marsiah Copeland would've turned a year old.
But the toddler's life was cut short on April 16 when she was found unresponsive in her crib.
Cella
Copeland, 22, is charged with her daughter's murder. Also charged with
murder is Copeland's boyfriend, 25-year-old Otis Lee Bennett. Bennett's
mother, Hetty Bennett, 42, is charged with cruelty to children.
On
Friday, Marsiah's grandmother, Pearl Copeland, held a birthday party to
remember the baby who didn't have a chance to grow up.
"It's
been rough but now I am asking God to show me how to forgive this man,"
said Copeland. "I want to ask him one question. ‘Why? What could a
nine-month-old baby do,' I don't get it.'"
Otis
Bennett is still in the Fulton County Jail on a no bond hold. Bennett
is charged with murder, child cruelty and aggravated assault.
According
the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office, the baby died of blunt
force trauma to the head and extremities. That included two broken legs
and a broken arm.
The family said they will honor Marsiah on her birthday every year.
"I
wanted to celebrate her life," said Laquanda Hill. Whether she is
gone, she is still here with us. She will never be forgotten. We'll
always love her."
Otis has an upcoming court date in July.
"Otis
said some things that sound like he did do it," said Pearl. "He is
sorry, but when he goes to court on the 17th, I plan on being there."
