Lynn Jackenheimer: Missing after not coming back from vacation in N.C.
07/09/2012
Lynn A. Jackenheimer, 33, is missing after her boyfriend returned from a camping trip without her.
Lynn who lives at 1615 Ohio 603 in Ashland County, Lucas, Ohio went on vacation in Nags Head, N.C. with her boyfriend, Nathan J. Summerfield, 27, of 310 Dorcester Street and Lynn's two children, ages 3 ad 13 on Sunday.
Summerfield dropped off the children at her home, but Lynn was not with them.
"He is a person of interest," Ashland County Sheriff's Capt. Carl Richert said.
The police are searching for Summerfield who may be driving a dark gray 2009 Honda Civic with license plate FMV7540, and are asking for the public's help to call in if they see him or the vehicle.
Summerfield evidently said something to his brother before he left on vacation with Lynn and her children.
"Incriminating statements have been made to persons in Ohio that foul play may be involved," said Dare County Deputy Steve Hoggard.
Jackenheimer is 5-foot, 8-inches tall and weighs 130 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
Information about the case should be reported to the sheriff's office detective bureau at 419-289-3911.

ASHLAND, Ohio — Friends of Lynn Jackenheimer gathered in an Ashland County park Monday afternoon to form search parties for the mother of two.
Investigators with the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office say Jackenheimer went with her 3-year-old son, her 13-year-old daughter, and boyfriend Nathaniel Summerfield, 27, on a week-long vacation to Nags Head North Carolina.
On Sunday Summerfield returned to a relative’s house without Jackenheimer, dropped off the children and made a disturbing confession.
In the call to Ashland Police Summerfield’s brother told them “I wanted to report a possible murder, my brother was in North Carolina with his ex-girlfriend and he came back and said he strangled her and he dropped his kid off and left.”
Captain Carl Richert with the Ashland County Sheriff’s office said investigators know Summerfield stopped at an ATM after he dropped off the children, but as of Monday afternoon they were still searching for both of them.
“We are trying to do everything we can to determine if there has been a crime committed or not,” said Richert, adding “right now we don’t know for sure other than what he told a relative.”
Friends say Summerfield and Jackenheimer had an on-again off-again relationship that had at times become violent. However, they said Jackenheimer would never have taken the children on the vacation if she felt they were in any danger. They also say Summerfield, who was the father of the 3-year-old boy, would never have done anything to harm the children.
“I just want him to turn himself in and let us know where Lynn is so we can get her home to her little boy and her little girl, they need their mom,” said Naomi Jackson.
“We’re just really worried right now, we just want to find Lynn, that’s our main priority,” added Jackson.
Investigators in Ashland County were questioning the two children on Monday trying to determine what they know about their missing mother.
Richert said they have every reason to believe she was left in North Carolina but her friends in Ashland say they could not just sit at home and do nothing.
“I hope that she just got mad and took off,” said Richert.
“It’s really hard,” said Stacey Longdew, a close friend of Jackenheimer, “I just want her to come back home and want to be able to see her again,” she concluded.

Re: LYNN A. JACKENHEIMER-33 yo-(2012) Ashland, OH
CLEVELAND - The family of missing Ashland mother Lynn Jackenheimer is now assisting law enforcement, searching a mile around the North Carolina residence in question.
Dare County Sheriff's Office chief deputy Steve Hoggard said about 25-30 of his officers, the National Park Service, and at least two other police departments are at the scene in Salvo, North Carolina.
Canines are not being used as part of the search Thursday because of the rainy weather conditions from the morning, when it rained for 3 hours. Friday's forecast isn't looking much brighter, as cloudy skies and thunderstorms are likely.
Lynn Jackenheimer's brother, Shaun, and his fiancee, Brittany Patterson, were the first family members to North Carolina. Patterson told a reporter the family came down to get some "peace of mind." She said they want to bring Lynn home one way or another so the family can have closure.
"The drive was rough. It's all about prayers," explained Shaun.
Jackenheimer, 33, was last heard from on July 3 before midnight, according to her best friend, Naomi Jackson.
"Lynn called a friend that she works with," said Jackson, who did not make the trip to Salvo because she is six months pregnant.
"Our thoughts are that's where she's at. Just from what he said, that's all we know is what he said to his brother. And then they stayed there the whole week. We are just searching where he was at," said Jackson.
Businesses are also taking donations for purple ribbons, hoping to help Lynn's family, too.
"I pray that they find her. Everybody needs peace in this mess. I'm just praying they find her alive," said Affinity Salon owner Sabrina Valentine.
On June 30, Jackenheimer decided to travel with on-again, off-again boyfriend Nathan Summerfield, 27, for vacation in Nags Head, North Carolina. According to Jackson, the two were back on a trial basis, but had been broken up previously.
Jackson said Summerfield told his former girlfriend he had gone to counseling and got help. She believes Jackenheimer wanted to reunite her family, as she and Summerfield have a 3-year-old son together.
In 2009, Jackenheimer had an order of protection against Summerfield.
"He dragged her through the house," Jackson said. The mom-to-be is fielding media questions for the family because she said they are a bit overwhelmed.
Police and the FBI got involved with the case when Summerfield's brother called 911 saying his brother admitted to strangling Jackenheimer. Police have been unable to speak with Summerfield, and at this point, neither has anyone else in the family. Summerfield came back to Ashland, Ohio from North Carolina on July 7, dropped off their 3-year-old and Jackenheimer's 13-year-old daughter, who has autism, and then, he too, disappeared.
Jackenheimer was seen eating in a restaurant in Salvo with her two children. The restaurant owner said he did not see Summerfield with her.
Meanwhile, Jackson is asking anyone with information, a photo, or if they've seen either Jackenheimer or Summerfield , to contact authorities.
The Ashland County Sheriff's Office can be reached at (419) 289-3911. Dare County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina can be reached at (252) 475-5980.
A reward for information leading to Jackenheimer has soared to $8,000. Around Ashland, you'll find a sea of purple ribbons as people put up reminders about the missing mother of two. Friends are also selling T-shirts for $10. All proceeds go to benefit the family.
If you would like to make a donation, you can visit any Chase Bank and donate to the Lynn A. Jackenheimer Family Trust Fund. Donations are also being taken by Beer Barrell Goodfellows Pizza, 1677 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio, and at O'bryan's Pub, 1065 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio

07/15/2012
MANTEO, N.C. — The sheriff heading the investigation into a body found on North Carolina’s Outer Banks says detectives need help from medical examiners to determine if the corpse is that of a missing Ohio woman.

as early as Monday, a step he says is needed to identify the body found
about 20 to 30 miles from where 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer, of
Ashland, Ohio, disappeared.
Sheriff’s investigators were unable to tell if the body is a woman or a man.
Jackenheimer was reported missing when she didn’t come home from a
vacation on the Outer Banks with her two children and her on-and-off

Family of missing Ashland woman believes body found in North Carolina is Lynn Jackenheimer

SALVO, N.C. - Time can be your best friend or your worst enemy. For the family of missing Ashland mother Lynn Jackenheimer, it's the latter.
The 33-year-old mother of two went on vacation with her kids to Nags Head, North Carolina in early July. Jackenheimer's ex-boyfriend, Nate Summerfield, 27, went along. Only Summerfield and the kids returned home to Ashland on July 7. But shortly after Summerfield dropped off their 3-year-old son and Jackenheimer's 13-year-old daughter at a family friend's house, he disappeared, authorities said.
Not long after Summerfield took off, police dubbed him a person of interest in the disappearance of Jackenheimer. Summerfield's brother also called police, telling them about a disturbing phone he just got from his brother: Summerfield said he strangled Jackenheimer to death.
On July 14, a construction worker found a body in a bag about 30 minutes from where Jackenheimer was last seen. For her family, it's been a matter of continuing to play the waiting game.
Our crews at the scene in North Carolina interviewed Jackenheimer's father, who told them he believes the body found is his daughter.
"I hate to say it this way, but I'm glad it's over with. We can at least bring Lynn back home now," said Raymond Johnson.
The Dare County Sheriff's Office is expected to provide "additional information" at a 3 p.m. news conference. While authorities haven't confirmed the identify of the body, Johnson just has that feeling.
"They haven't said nothing, but I believe it's (Lynn)."
The medical examiner's office in Greenville, North Carolina told our crews they have a "rush" to autopsy the body, an exam that takes about 2 hours to complete. The results are expected Monday or Tuesday. The office handles all of eastern North Carolina, or roughly 22 counties.
When asked about Summerfield and his involvement, Johnson said it's time the search turned to find him.
"I'm pretty sure that we have found my daughter," said Johnson. "Now it's about time for a manhunt for his ass."

Body is that of Lynn Summerfield
Arrest Warrant Issued for Estranged Boyfriend in Lynn Summerfield Case
DARE COUNTY, North Carolina — Authorities in Dare County, North Carolina, confirmed it was Lynn Jackenheimer’s body that was found in a remote area on Saturday afternoon.
They have also issued an arrest warrant for Jackenheimer’s estranged boyfriend Nathan Summerfield.
Jackenheimer, 33, disappeared earlier this month after vacationing in the Outer Banks with her estranged boyfriend, Nathan Summerfield, 27. According to investigators with the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department, Summerfield returned home to Ashland with her two children, ages 3 and 13, and confessed to his brother that he killed Jackenheimer. Summerfield then disappeared.
“We’ve put out everything we have. I mean, we’ve contacted family members, locations for him, right now we’re in a holding pattern,” said Chief Deputy Roger Martin from Ashland County.
If caught, Summerfield will face murder charges in Dare County, where Jackenheimer’s body was found, according to Chief Deputy Martin. He said the investigation into his whereabouts is ongoing but anyone with information is being asked to call authorities.
“Oh, absolutely,” said Martin, “Just contact local law enforcement and let them do what they need to do.”
An unidentified caller contacted 911 on Saturday afternoon after finding a body in Frisco, North Carolina. The body, identified by the caller as a female, was in a wooded area off the end of a cul-de-sac with only one house.
Nearby residents, including Tami Thompson, dropped-off flowers and cards at the scene for Jackenheimer’s family.
“I just wrote that even though our family doesn’t know their family, that our thoughts and prayers are with them,” said Thompson.
“It hits home and opened eyes in ways that we never thought eyes would need to be opened,” said a neighbor who lives on Summerfield’s street in Ashland. She doesn’t want to be identified, but helped decorate their neighborhood with purple ribbons in memory of Lynn.
“Do what’s right, give the family the answers and closure that they so desperately want and need.”
By phone, Lynn’s stepfather told Fox 8 News her son and daughter aren’t doing well.
“That poor boy wakes-up every morning wanting mommy and when he goes to bed, he wants his mommy. Her daughter keeps asking us to go find mommy,” said Ray Johnson.
Summerfield was last seen driving a dark grey metallic 2009 Honda Civic. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police.
A fund has been set up in support of Jackenheimer’s two children. People can donate to the Lynn A. Jackenheimer Family Trust Fund at any Chase Bank branch.

Poster's note: I'm thankful this guy didn't kill the children, but why oh why kill their mother? He could have just walked away from the relationship. And jmo he's killed himself too. I just don't get it. Such evil in this world.

Hunt for wanted fugitive Nate Summerfield in Lynn Jackenheimer murder goes to YouTube

CLEVELAND - Friends and family members of Lynn Jackenheimer, the murdered Ashland mother, have taken their search efforts to find fugitive Nate Summerfield to YouTube.
Photos of Nate Summerfield, 27, are set to the song by Sick Puppies called "You're Going Down." The 3-minute slideshow features collages of the fugitive who's wanted for murdering Lynn Jackenhemier, 33, and allegedly dumping her body 30 minutes from the beach cottage they rented in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Strewn throughout the slideshow are also photos of Jackenheimer, her children and Justice for Lynn memorabilia. The slideshow opens with a message to help find Nate Summerfield. The next slide says, "Dedicated to those who continue to search for justice in the name of Lynn Jackenheimer."
Summerfield is the ex-boyfriend of the mother of two and father of one of their kids. The couple went on vacation to the beach over the July Fourth weekend. Summerfield returned home with the children, 3 and 13, on July 8, stopped at an ATM and hasn't been seen or heard from since.
Banners, posters of Summerfield, pictures of the search efforts, news and magazine articles about the case, including newsnet5.com and NewsChannel5 coverage, are also included in the YouTube clip.
Jackenheimer was found dead by a construction worker July 14 in Frisco, her body left under brush in a bag. Officials later determined Jackenheimer was strangled and stabbed to death.
A purple ribbon, representing domestic violence, is also included with the words "Stop The Violence" is seen in the YouTube clip. The slideshow ends much like the song lyrics it's set to: "Nate Summerfield is going to go down soon."

Lynn Jackenheimer Update: Nate Summerfield's Parents Add Insult to Injury
July 31, 2012 01:35 AM EDT
Lynn Jackenheimer hasn't been laid to rest for more than a week and
now the parents of the man accused of brutally killing her are adding
insult to injury. Now they're trying to fight for custody of the
3-year-old son she shared with Nate Summerfield, who is currently on the
run and being sought in the murder of the Ashland, Ohio mother. While
they may have limited right as grandparents, it seems that they haven't a
care for what the children are going through at this time, as they are
trying to separate the boy from his biological sister and maternal
grandparents.
This
is sickening. First their son stabs and strangles Lynn Jackenheimer,
then he goes on the run and now they're trying to rip her 3-year-old son
away from his sister and maternal grandparents as if they couldn't give
a damn less about the psychological damage this will inflict on both children (not just him).
A
close friend of the Jackenheimer family says that the family is
absolutely shocked to learn that the Summerfields are petitioning to get
full custody of the boy. What's more, they haven't made an effort to
request joint visitation or any other form of contact with the slain
woman's parents.
"It was a
complete surprise. They haven't even spoken to Lynn's family, given her
an apology, condolences. They haven't tried to reach out to Nate to get
him help. They haven't done anything."
Well, considering they raised a son who displayed a pattern of
frequent domestic abuse, it's not surprising to see that they're
displaying a total lack of regard for the family of the slain woman,
including her children. It's absolutely despicable to hear that this is
going on, when all they should do is reach a joint agreement. Do they
not care that he stabbed and strangled the woman before going on the
run?
This isn't an attempt to spread more animosity, but have
investigators considered the possibility that Nate Summerfield's family
may know where he is hiding? Could it be at all possible that they're
trying to get custody of his son for ulterior reasons? It's believed
that he's hiding out in Ohio right now, where his family is also
located. Hopefully investigators are keeping eagle eyes out on them,
especially since they're trying to remove a child from the care and
familiarity of his family.

I hope the Summerfields lose and don't get any custody or visitation at this time. They don't deserve it until their son is accounted for and it's approved that they aren't supporting him on the run. This is so tragic for the kids.

Report: How Nathan Summerfield avoids capture
Posted on: 8:44 pm, July 31, 2012, by Alix Bryan
updated on: 08:48pm, July 31, 2012
ASHLAND, Ohio (Fox8) — As the manhunt for accused killer Nathan Summerfield continues, CBS 6 affiliates in Ohio, the Fox 8 I-Team, is learning more about the difficulties that authorities may be facing in their search.
According to friends of murder victim Lynn Jackenheimer, it appears Summerfield is frustrating investigators with his knowledge of technology.
Rhiannon Burkhardt, a lifelong friend of Jackenheimer, told the I-Team, “He is extremely intelligent, that’s the problem we’re dealing with. He can hack into anything, he can play with your mind. Phone bills, phone towers, it’s been just a nightmare, showing that he’s one place and you go and he’s not at that place or it bounced off a different tower.”
Jackenheimer’s friends and relatives are convinced that Summerfield is getting help from someone to avoid capture. The victim’s sister, Tasha Holland, told the I-Team, “If you have the heart to help a murderer, you should be treated like one.”
Holland said the family is doing its best to raise her sister’s 13-year-old daughter, Ciara, and three-year-old son, Leland.
Jackenheimer, 33, was killed on July 4 while on vacation in North Carolina with the children and Summerfield, 27, who is Jackenheimer’s ex-boyfriend and Leland’s father.
Investigators say Summerfield stabbed and strangled Jackenheimer and dumped her body in Frisco, North Carolina.
He then returned to Ohio with the children and vanished after allegedly admitting to his brother that he had killed Lynn Jackenheimer.
Holland said that nearly one month after the murder, young Leland pointed to a star in the sky and asked, “How can I talk to an angel?”
Holland told Fox 8, “I said, ‘that’s mommy looking down and shining down on you.’ He still says, ‘how do I talk to mommy, how can I touch mommy?’”
When Jackenheimer’s parents went to Ashland County Family Court on Monday to ask for full custody of the two children, they were stunned to learn that Nathan Summerfield’s parents were seeking custody of Leland.
Fox 8 News went to the Summerfield home to ask about the custody dispute, but there was no answer at the door.
Jackenheimer’s family said their lawyer has advised them not to talk about the dispute, but their daughter’s friends have strong opinions about Nathan Summerfield’s family seeking custody of his son.
“You can’t separate brothers and sisters, I mean they’ve been through something no one should ever have to go through and they need to feed off of each other, and love one another,” said Rhiannon Burkhardt.

ASHLAND COUNTY — Murder suspect Nate Summerfield has been arrested according to an official with the U.S. Marshals Office.
Peter J. Elliott of the Marshals Office says that Summerfield has been arrested but would not provide details on when or where he was taken into custody.
Authorities are holding an 11:30 a.m. press conference at the Ashland County Court House to provide details on the arrest.
Summerfield has been on the run since early July after admitting to a family member that he had killed his longtime girlfriend Lynn Jackenheimer.
Ashland County Sheriff’s deputies say Jackenheimer disappeared during a trip to North Carolina with Summerfield, ad her children, ages 3 and 13.
According to authorities Summerfield and the children returned to Ashland on July 8, 2012 without Lynn.
“Nate shows up in Ashland County, drops the kids off at a family member’s house, has a conversation with one of his relatives and he made certain statements to the relative that he had done something to her and that he needed to get out of here,” said Capt. Carl Richert, with the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department.
“I wanted to report a possible murder… my brother was in North Carolina with his ex-girlfriend and he came back and said he strangled her, he dropped his kid off and left,” Summerfield’s brother told a dispatcher in a call to 911.

Hearing set in Medina County for Nate Summerfield, accused killer of Ashland mom Lynn Jackenheimer
Extradition hearing set for Aug. 17 at 10:45 a.m.

CLEVELAND - The man accused of murdering Ashland mom Lynn Jackenheimer will make his first court appearance Friday morning.
Nate Summerfield is scheduled to appear before a Medina County Common Pleas Court judge at 10:45 a.m. for his extradition hearing.
Summerfield was arrested on Aug. 15 following a monthlong nationwide manhunt.
Jackenheimer disappeared over the July Fourth weekend while vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with Summerfield, her estranged boyfriend. The 27-year-old Summerfield is accused of stabbing and strangling the mother of two to death before dumping her body 30 minutes from their beach cottage.
North Carolina chief assistant district attorney, Nancy Lamb, has been assigned to prosecute Summerfield. But a backlog of cases will likely push any trial proceedings back to 2014.
If Summerfield does not fight extradition, he could be sent to North Carolina "in days." But if he does fight it, a governor's warrant would need to be obtained and served to Summerfield within 90 days.
The legal process for Summerfield in North Carolina is well under way. Evidence against him will be presented to a grand jury Sept. 10 "whether he has been returned to North Carolina or not," Lamb said in a phone interview from her office in North Carolina.
After that, the legal process begins to slow down quite a bit. Superior Court, which handles all felonies, meets for one week once a month. This is part of the reason Lamb said they have a backlog of cases. Including the district attorney, Frank Parrish, their are 12 prosecuting attorneys which cover seven counties, seven agencies and seven sheriff's departments.
The Outer Banks Voice published an article in February claiming "five cases have been pending for time periods ranging from 270 to almost 1,600 days." Lamb said the article was incorrect and there is no case that's been waiting for prosecution that long.
The same article also pointed out there have been several complaints about how long it takes to get to pending cases. At one point, their were six complaints wanting Parrish to step down from office. In March, a judge found "no probable cause" to have him removed.
Part of Lamb's job includes quality control and handling complaints. She only takes on cases if necessary, if the DA's request it.
Lamb has been on the job for 28 years and has only lost one murder case. One came to a hung jury, ultimately ending with the person later convicted in a retrial.
At this point, Lamb can't say if they will pursue the death penalty against Summerfield, saying "it has yet to be determined."
North Carolina has not executed someone since 2006.
While there is no state moratorium, there is an issue with doctors being present at executions and whether that violates their oath.
When -- or if -- the trial finally begins, how long it last will depends on whether or not the State of North Carolina seeks the death sentence. If it isn't a capital case, Lamb said she's prosecuted a murder suspect in one week.
"A capital case could take four to five to six weeks," Lamb explained. If not more.
Once Summerfield arrives in North Carolina, he's expected to be housed at the Dare County Detention Facility.
"It's unlikely Mr. Summerfield will be allowed to have a bond because of the circumstances that exist," Lamb said.

DARE COUNTY, N.C. - A judge in North Carolina denied bond for Nate Summerfield, who's accused of murdering his estranged girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer, while vacationing in the Outer Banks.
WVEC reported Summerfield was soft-spoken in court, but acknowledged the charges against him.
Summerfield is charged with murdering Jackenheimer over the July Fourth holiday weekend and dumping her body in some brush about 30 minutes from their beach cottage. Summerfield then drove Jackenheimer's kids back home to Ashland, dropped them off at a family friend's house and disappeared, police said.
A monthlong manhunt finally led authorities to catch Summerfield at a Wadsworth hotel last week.
At a hearing in Medina County on Friday, Summerfield waived his extradition and was sent to Dare County, N.C. the following day.
Andy Womble was appointed as Summerfield's public defender.
Officials in North Carolina told WVEC that Summerfield has been "very cooperative since he's been in custody."
A Grand Jury will see evidence on Sept. 10. A probable cause hearing will be next and could take place on Sept. 28.
Depending on how quickly the District Attorney's Office can gather all the evidence -- and whether or not it's a death penalty case -- will determine when Summerfield will go on trial. It could be 2014 before the proceedings begin.

US Marshals looking into possibility murder suspect Nate Summerfield had an accomplice
08/22/2012
ASHLAND, Ohio - Police are looking into the possibility that murder suspect Nate Summerfield of Ashland had an accomplice.
Peter
Elliot with the U.S. Marshal's Office said investigators are following
up on tips and leads about a possible second person being involved in
some way.
Summerfield, 27, was captured Aug. 15 at the Legacy Inn
and Suites in Wadsworth after being on the run for more than a month.
He's been charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend Lynn
Jackenheimer, whose body was found in North Carolina after she was
reported missing.
Summerfield, Jackenheimer, their 3-year-old son
and Jackenheimer's 13-year-old daughter all took a trip to the Outer
Banks for the Fourth of July. On July 8, Summerfield dropped the
children off with a family member and disappeared. His brother called
911, saying his brother told him he killed Jackenheimer.
On the
day of his capture, NewsChannel5 Chief Investigator Ron Regan spoke to
Marilyn Vickers, a member of the cleaning crew at the hotel who
witnessed the arrest. She said she saw a man with a dog come out of room
211 – the same room where Summerfield was staying – and drive away in a
red pickup truck. Moments later, law enforcement officials moved in on
the room and arrested Summerfield.
The cleaning crew was taken into another room for safety, where they heard authorities yelling "get down, get down."
Summerfield
checked in by himself the day before under the name "Jay Summerfield"
of Polk, Ohio – a town north of Ashland. A check by Regan found that
name corresponds with a relative of Nate Summerfield who lives in Polk
and has a criminal record.
There's no confirmation about who that
man may have been leaving Summerfield's room. Investigators would not
comment when asked about that witness account.
Summerfield waived extradition in Medina County and was transported back to Dare County, North Carolina.
