Mother charged in baby's methadone overdose
28-year-old Jennifer Frazier is charged in the death of her six-month-old daughter.

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. — Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office charged a 28-year-old mother from Murray Hill in the death of her 6-month-old daughter.

Jennifer Frazier of 3615 Dellwood Avenue is charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child under 18 years by culpable negligence.

JSO’s Chief of Detectives Tom Hackney says Frazier admitted to mixing ibuprofen and antibiotics to treat her daughter’s fever. She said she mixed the medicine in the same container and syringe which she uses to mix her prescription for methadone, a highly controlled narcotic pain killer. It’s often prescribed to recovering drug addicts.

“She stored her methadone in a box of her child’s medication,” Hackney said.

Frazier told detectives she gave her daughter the medicine around 7:45 p.m. on June 29. At about 10:00 a.m. the next day, she found her baby dead.

“Her story is that she thought she was giving the child the ibuprofen; however, there was no ibuprofen found in her system,” Hackney said.

“The truth may never be known in this case. We've got an incident here that she stored her methadone in a box of her child's medication.”

The medical examiner found a deadly dose of methadone in the baby, according to Hackney.

Investigators said they don't know Frazier's intent, but regardless, they said she’s at fault.

Frazier is in jail on a half million dollar bond.

The Department of Children and Families are deciding what should become of her other children.
